Narnia Slips to #2 But Does Well
In its second weekend in the box office The Chronicles of Narnia slipped to the #2 spot making only $31.2 million behind King Kong’s $50.15 million. Kong did poorer than expected and certainly didn’t break any records. Indeed, Narnia’s opening weekend of $65.6 million was about equal to Kong’s first five days of $66.2 million (it opened in theaters on Wednesday).
Narnia has now earned $112 million domestically (in the U.S.) and $75 million internationally bringing its worldwide lifetime gross to $187million. The film was expanded this week to 64 more theaters bringing the domestic theater count to 3,680 (Box Office Mojo and Reuters).
