Kong Slips By Narnia on Christmas Weekend
According to studio estimates released this afternoon, King Kong slipped by Narnia to take the #1 spot over the Christmas weekend earning $21.3 million. Narnia was not far behind with $20.4 milion.
The Chronicles of Narnia was shown in 3,853 theaters, an increase of 173 from last week. Kong was shown in 3,576 theaters, an increase of 8 from last week.
To date, Narnia has made $153,822,000 domestically and $242,406,000 worldwide.

UPDATE: Hollywood Reporter writes that Narnia has taken the no. 1 spot at the overall international box office and in 21 of 26 countries. Without Monday’s result, Narnia’s $35.2 million three-day weekend earnings (from 6,200 screens in 26 countries) beat out holiday rival “King Kong’s” weekend of $34.3 million (from 5,680 screens in 55 territories).
