Saoirse Ronan Addresses Narnia Casting Rumors on Jimmy Kimmel: “She Hasn’t Asked Me…Yet”

During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, actress Saoirse Ronan addressed the swirling rumors about her potential involvement in Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia adaptation.

Kimmel: There are rumors that you will be in Greta Gerwig’s version, reboot – I don’t know what to call it – reimagining of Chronicles of Narnia. Is there truth to that?

Ronan: I mean there’s not – there isn’t no truth to it. She hasn’t asked me yet, she’s writing it. But we have that kind of relationship where I just sort of go to her and I say “so I’ll be in this, just so you know” […] but she honestly hasn’t asked me about Narnia. I think she’s so wrapped up in writing it right now.

This exchange follows a report from last week, which claimed Ronan had been cast in a “supporting role” for the upcoming films. NarniaWeb followed up on this claim and, after checking with our sources, confirmed that the report was inaccurate.

Though there’s no official casting news for Gerwig’s Narnia project as of yet, Ronan’s ongoing collaboration with the director—having worked together on Lady Bird and Little Women—makes it very possible that her inclusion in Narnia could still become a reality.

It’s hilarious and almost impressive how still no one knows a title or source book for this movie!

Greta Gerwig has brought Narnia back into the mainstream spotlight and we’re still years away from a release date! So happy to know there will be a new generation of fans reading the books — much like the Walden adaptations!

  5. Eustace says:

So, I am taking this to mean that she will probably be involved.

  6. Bolton says:

Don’t like the sound of “reimagining” but I’ll chalk that up to no one having any idea what Gerwig is actually working on…

  7. Silvia A says:

So Gerwig is still writing? I guess you’re able to work on concept art, character design work, and location scouting while re-writing the script. Hopefully we’ll hear news on those other areas soon!
