Greta Gerwig on 60 Minutes
Yesterday, Greta Gerwig was profiled on CBS’s national news magazine program 60 Minutes. Watch the video.
Netflix’s The Chronicles of Narnia movies were only briefly mentioned in at the 12:32 mark:
VOICEOVER: Next, Gerwig is taking on a big franchise. She’s directing and writing two “Chronicles of Narnia” movies. She confessed putting her stamp on the beloved C.S. Lewis classics is giving her nightmares.
Gerwig: Yeah, whenever I’m stuck, I go for walks–which is most of the time?
Alfonsi: Do you get stuck?
Gerwig: That’s all I’ve been!
Alfonsi: I feel like it’s flowing out of you–
Gerwig: That’s all I do. I only get stuck. That’s why I’m always going on walks. (laugh)
The 13-minute piece is framed around the process of helming Barbie and the movie’s reception, but also offers a concise overview of her early life and career, and insight into her creative process. Her partner Noah Baumbach (Barbie co-writer) is also interviewed.
A bit of a letdown how short the Narnia discussion was…
Greta’s certainly the phenomenon these days… it’s weird (but also really nice) to see Narnia share in the spotlight a bit. It will only grow as we near production!
So it was indeed Narnia that gave her nightmares – interesting!
And good that she really wants to do a good job (I mean, why else would she get stuck)
@HTP. How correct! It is surprising that Narnia as a property is getting so much positive attention. And it’s because the proposed writer-director made a billion dollar film this year – and has made other Oscar- nominated films.
This is made more pronounced because we had so much time with the Narnia films in development hell. And with The Chronicles of Narnia being viewed often as the poor younger cousin of Lord of the Rings. And the Walden film series is not as good or popular as LotR and Harry Potter’s.
So it’s so nice to hear all this excitement about Narnia, even if it’s simply piggy backing off Barbie’s success.
