Gresham Tells NarniaWeb “Things are happening at last” with The Silver Chair
Following yesterday’s announcement, we received this message from Co-producer Douglas Gresham (stepson of C.S. Lewis):
Hi NarniaWebbers, well now you know! We have an experienced and talented director for The Silver Chair and that means that with Joe Johnston at the helm, serious development work can now get started. This is when it starts to be hard work and fun combined. Don’t hold your breath, but things are happening at last.
Post your reply to Doug below!
Thank you, Douglas Gresham, we really appreciate you working on getting the Narnia movies made!
Thanks for the message Doug! We are rooting for you and Joe!
"Things are happening at last" – not unlike "Aslan is on the move!"
Hear, hear!
Thanks so much for your dedication to getting these films made, Doug! We're excited to see what you create with this talented new team. It's been a long wait, but here's to hoping that it will be more than worth it! Further up and further in. 😀
That's really nice of him to send a message to us fans! Guess this means pre-production will probably start too get underway now.
I remember that I was in grade school when the moratorium started and wondered how I could wait for all this time to pass. But hopefully now, the wait will be worth it!
And best wishes to everyone involved with the project. Hope the film turns out great!
This is great news. I can't wait for more information for this film.
What does he mean by 'Don’t hold your breath, but things are happening at last.' sorry english is not my first language.
I think he means that there's nothing guaranteed yet – the project may still get cancelled.
FINALLY!! I cannot tell you how excited I am for this. I wore head-to-toe Narnia things for the VoDT premiere (in my defense I was like 11) and cannot wait to hear the cast, see the costumes, and delve into this new story.
Thank you. My imagination was formed with these books as their foundation. I really look forward to seeing more of them on the big screen.
Thank you for doing so much for your stepfather's legacy, Doug! 🙂
This is really weird, because after I heard the news that Tristar is doing the film, I have been watching their movies they've done, Jumanji, Madeline and Matilda. And after I watched Jumanji, I looked up Joe Johnston because I thought he would make a good choice, I did thought him at first, then I thought either Chris Columbus or Mel Gibson. I really hope He will do a good job to keep SC close to The book.
I pray that Doug will get to see all of the books made into films, and I hope that the studios and directors will share his vision of staying faithful to the spirit (and, perhaps, even the letter) of the source material. Almost everything is the way it is for a good reason within Lewis's writing: something that you discover with each re-reading. Let's hope that SC will retain all of the layers :o)
when will auditions begin? any casting information yet?
Thank you so much for being so dedicated to Narnia. It has been such a life changing story for me and I appreciate your passion.
I agree. 🙂 Nice to see The Silver Chair finally getting primed and ready for the big screen. Go Narnia! Go SC film-making team!
If Mr Gresham is happy, that is a good sign! Looking forward!
HOORAAYYYYYY!!!
Thank you! Please keep us informed 🙂 Is there any information about auditions? I cannot wait to see these amazing books final turned into films.
Dear Mr. Gresham,
I must know: has Joe Johnson read Narnia? Does he have a passion to bring The Silver Chair to life? Does he even care about the books, or is he just in it to have another franchise on his resume?
That is what Doug Gresham means by "don't hold your breath". There has to be a lot of artistic, technical and clerical work done first before they can start casting people.
I'll second, third and fourth that….
Honestly, I'm sure you're not the first one to think of these questions! Why would they care about his resume?? Of course, they would have done all of that.
I don't think it will get canceled. I think he means, there's still a lot more to do before the next major announcement.
Great news, but I hope that Harry Gregson- Williams return as composer. His music was amazing. Please, Mr.Gresham – Williams must return.
Can someone please explain to me how the Narnia films in the past have lost money? I've read online that the box office brought in millions of dollars more than the budget.
PC and VDT didn't necessarily lose money, but they need perform well below expectations. Also, keep in mind that there are many different companies that split the profits. So it's not as simple as grossing more money than the production budget. The reason studios really push opening weekends is because they usually retain a smaller and smaller percentage of the grosses in later weekends.
Does he have a Twitter account?
"Don't hold your breath.." It seems like he is trying to downplay what is going on. Why wouldn't he want us to get out hopes up? This seems like step in a the right direction. Why shouldn't we hold our breath?
PLEASE NO WEIRD GREEN MIST or similar oddness! I do not want another Narnia film like VoDT I have to hide from my children and forbid to come into my house. JUST FOLLOW THE STORY LEWIS WROTE.
