Ben Barnes Discusses ‘Dawn Treader’
NarniaWeb member Lover of Narnia alerted us to a new audio interview with Ben Barnes. Jo Parkerson from LBC Radio sat down to talk with Ben about his appearance in the play Birdsong, but there is also discussion of the Narnia franchise and the upcoming Voyage of the Dawn Treader film.
The topic switch to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader comes a little over 10 minutes into the interview. Ben reports that he will most likely be on the red carpet for the premiere, but will still be performing Birdsong that night. He will attempt to make a return trip to the premiere afterparty once the performance of Birdsong is finished.
Ben also discusses his role in the action scenes from Prince Caspian and Dawn Treader. He indicates that while there is less action in the latter film, he is more personally involved in it than in his previous jaunt to Narnia. Ben also mentions various sundries such as falling down rooftops and a scene involving King Caspian forced to fight foes with a pair of handcuffs, referring to it as an “archaic Jason Bourne” scene.
The interview runs about 15 minutes and may be found here.
Hmm…so it seems there are going to be some interesting fight scenes. I'm a little embarrassed to say I'm looking forward to seeing Caspian fight… I just hope the first excitement doesn't fade away to leave me angry with the changes from the book… And I REALLY hope they haven't messed with the scene where they confront Gumpas! That was so classic! Maybe it will still be there, even if it's overshadowed by the big, free-for-all battle that apparently goes on. ๐
Wow, looking good. It's great when the actors say there's less action than the first film. THAT is good. It indicates it's more of a character story than what Adamson gave us (eye candy)… I'd rather have character story like DT (hopefully) than what we got in PC… it was so disappointing… and he really messed that up. The story doesn't even follow. Though I must say he did a good job in LWW =)
But this is GOOD news! ๐
Very interesting. Poor Ben is going to be exhausted after that night. Red Carpte, Play, Party…..good luck!
oh yeah! I love the gumpas-caspian-dialog.. it's great, how caspian just manages to stay friendly and still make Gumpas look like an idiot. ๐
Fighting with handcuffs? Interesting…although it sounds a bit off. What ever happened to Lord Bern buying him?
So, everyone's talking about it. That's good I guess…
Bring it on!
how cool is that to fight with handcuffs? thats gonna be fun to watch. im guessing thats when he was taken to the dungeon on Narrowhaven, so maybe we'll see Edmund also handcuffed and fighting. and falling down rooftops?! cool! the events at Narrowhaven is one of the parts im espcially excited for, because i really love skirmishes in movies, like the fights in the market Dastan does in Prince of Persia ๐ and it sounds like its going to be great and exciting. cant wait to see the action in this movie ๐
Yeah, every Narnia book has a couple brilliant dialogue scenes. What's interesting about the Gumpas/Caspian dialogue is that it's a lot of things at once.
It's funny, because Caspian is throwing a wrench into the bureaucracy of the islands.
It's tense because if Gumpas discovers the truth (that Caspian only has one ship and is incredibly vulnerable), bye bye Dawn Treader.
It's also unexpected because, as readers, I think we assume that there will be a need for fighting at some point, but Caspian manages to do it without fighting. I love that.
Imagine it! Conflicts being solved without fighting. Shocking, I know. ๐
If its anything like Jason Bourne its gonna be good! The bourne trilogy come 2nd place (to narnia) in my favorite movie list. ๐
Oh yeah! you bet it'll be frikkin awesome!!!
excited!!!
I think in the movie Gumpas will have put Bern in prison to silence him, and Caspian meets him there.
I hope it does not come off as too martial arts like.
That would just be weird in Narnia.
well, I am happy that he talked about fighting with handcuffs, at least they do get captured as slaves.
OKโฆI love Jason Bourne and I love King Caspianโฆbut not them combined!!! This is not supposed to be some huge action film. Oh, well. I have given up hoping that the movies will live up to the books and the way C.S. Lewis intended and I am just trying to look forward to the movie as a movie. And not focus on it being Narnia. ๐
Very true glumPuddle. It seems that the idea of "victory not by force of arms" is lost here. We won't have victory without fighting.
Yes! This Is Really good!!!
I agree. I felt that there was a little too much action in "Prince Caspian." Not only that, but it also felt too gritty and dark, especially the battle at the castle. It's great to hear promise of a more personal story. That said, I'm sure whatever action is in VDT will be great fun.
Dude they better not make it really martial-artsy, that just does not work in Narnia.
AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so exciting….not sure about all the fighting, but I'm glad Ben says that isn't going to be like PC because….well, PC was so full of fighting it was just plain boring.
I know! Too excited! That's the only part I liked in Prince of Persia!
This movie should really good or i cryed with my friends over the Trailor for nothing ๐ hahahaha JK
NICE… I SAW THIS MOVIE AWES0ME
