Joe Locke and Emma Myers Want to Join Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Movie

Three young stars, Joe Locke, Emma Myers, and Azriel Dalman have expressed interest in appearing in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated The Chronicles of Narnia adaptations for Netflix.

Joe Locke, 20, known for his role in Netflix’s Heartstopper, recently shared his excitement about the potential of working with Gerwig during an interview promoting the MCU’s Agatha All Along, which premiered this week.

I’d love to work with Greta Gerwig. She’s amazing. […] I’d absolutely love to [be cast in her Narnia films]”

Meanwhile, Emma Myers, 22, best known for her role in Wednesday, also revealed her desire to join Gerwig’s take on the beloved C.S. Lewis series. In a live Q&A, Myers said that her dream role would be to play Susan Pevensie. She told RadioTimes in July that “Susan and Lucy from Narnia were always my role models!”

In another interview, Myers spoke about how deeply the Narnia books and films impacted her as a child:

I really, really loved the Narnia series – I read the books when I was little and absolutely loved the films. I think that the fantasy genre kind of inspired me a lot as a kid…”

Azriel Dalman, 11, who recently portrayed a young Percy in Disney’s Percy Jackson, also wants to get involved in Gerwig’s adaptation. Dalman playfully replied to a fan asking him about his dream acting roles, “Maybe Greta Gerwig will call me up about The Chronicles of Narnia? Please?”

In 2023, Netflix confirmed that Greta Gerwig would be directing and writing “at least” two films of their Narnia series. Despite the anticipation, Netflix has not announced any cast yet, leaving fans and young actors eagerly awaiting further details.

Here’s everything we know about the project.

Azriel looks like he could maybe play Digory!

  2. Impending Doom says:

It’s cool to hear Emma Myers’ history with the series. Ultimately, the casting choice should be based on who can best bring the character to life, but being a huge fan of Narnia should definitely be a tie-breaker!

  3. Col Klink says:

Poor Azriel, not making the headline. LOL.

  4. Moonwood the Hare says:

I really hope Gerwig will at least roughly stick to the original ages and not cast a 30 year old to play Caspian.
Therefore, I could only see the two adult actors as options for grown up Pevensies or maybe minor roles (Lasaraleen?? A faun?).
Azriel could also play Shasta depending on when they start filming haha. But if they hurry he could be Edmund in LWW :’D

Emma Myers and Azriel Dalman may be great but they’re not British. I’m sure they can put on an accent but it feels less believable.

Harry Potter is doing an open casting call for their young actors, I wonder what approach Greta will take for Narnia… hopefully we’ll hear some news soon!

I’m of the opinion that Joe Locke should be cast in just about everything, hope he gets the chance to take on a character in Narnia. He would have been a great Edmund but he is too old for that role now.

Maybe, given the timelines we’re looking at, Azriel could be Shasta or Peter. Emma would be great as a niad or dryad (please, Gretta, have corporeal niads and dryads). I’m having trouble picturing Joe as anyone other than old Edmund, but how about Tumnus? Rabadash?

It’s one thing to have adults play child roles on stage, but not in a film. These two actors who are out of their teens are nice looking but not what is needed for a film.
A boy who is 11 may be suitable if casting happens soon. I could imagine him as a young Caspian, or Diggory, although he is rather prettier than I’d have thought.

Emma Myers does look younger than her age, but considering they haven’t even cast the movies yet, she’ll be 24 or 25 before filming starts on The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and late 20s or older for Prince Caspian. They should at least try and go for the right ages.

She might not be happy with it, but she would make an interesting choice for Jadis, The Witch, however. She’s charming and usually plays a heroic character. She’d bring some sympathy and charm to Jadis that might make it easier to understand why some characters and groups within Narnia sympathize with her.

I wish they would hurry up and cast already. At this rate we will be lucky to get the first one in 2026.

The new Magician’s Nephew teaser! Do they really mean this coming holiday season?

Ideally, we’ll see a lot of new faces for Narnia! In my opinion, these actors would be unknown enough to where I could see them in various roles… even though they have fan bases and millions of followers already. But it’s not to the point (unlike Timothy Chalamet) where they’ve oversaturated the general movie-going audience.
