Noah Baumbach “Working in the Background” on Narnia Movies
Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach have collaborated on five projects, including this year’s Barbie. At the Gotham Awards on Monday, Baumbach was asked if he would be working with her on Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia movies. Watch his reply here at 2:28:
[Gerwig is] working on [Narnia] now. We always show each other everything. So, I’ll be, you know, working in the background with her, but we always have things that we’re developing together.”

Marriage Story is a masterpiece! I also enjoyed Frances Ha.
I understand Marriage Story is said to be very good, but I can’t bring myself to watch it due to the intense treatment of the sensitive topic. But it is nice to hear this morsel of news, even if it was somewhat predictable, and doesn’t change anything for now.
It’s nice the Narnia adaptation will have a family team behind it! There are several themes of family in the books. For starters, the main characters are siblings and cousins, not simply unrelated friends! I wonder if Lewis’ relationship with his brother Warnie was any inspiration for that.
Yeah, they gonna treat the source materiel like garbage.
Part of me wonders if we’ll see Baumbach involved more directly at some point down the line!
Baumbach and Gerwig make quite the power couple. Always cool to see talented people involved with Narnia – even in a supporting “background” role!
I’m mildly curious about whether Baumbich’s contributions will be enough for him to get co-screenwriter credit, as he has with some other movies that he’s done with Gerwig, or if she’s just showing him drafts and asking for his advice the way I do with my friends and family when I’m writing. It doesn’t really impact how I’m feeling about the project either way. Like I said, just mildly curious.
I think I read that he only found out he was working on Barbie by reading about it in the news. In that case, he ended up co-writing with Gerwig so he’ll likely have some creative involvement.
From what t I’ve seen of Baumbach, I take that as a huge positive.
Obvious news is now confirmed… – now announce The Magician’s Nephew is coming first LOL
