Ever Wondered What Narnia Would Look Like as a Pixar Movie?
Well, you don’t have to wonder any longer. Narnia Latina recently posted four 3D-style renderings of The Chronicles of Narnia’s Pevensie siblings on Twitter, all made with the artificial intelligence cartoon-generating app ToonMe.
Check out Peter, Lucy, Susan, and Edmund below:
Let’s not leave out Prince Caspian and Eustace and the White Witch, though:
Are Narnia fans getting bored while waiting for the next big announcement about Netflix’s Narnia? Maybe a little bit, but in the meantime, it’s fun to imagine all the different ways that future Narnia adaptations might take shape.
Do you like the idea of Pixar making a Narnia film? How do you feel about Narnia in 3D animation, or animation in general? Share your thoughts in the comments below or in the discussion forums.
Hrmmmm. A bit of uncanny valley in the eyes of Caspian and Eustace. Pixar has been nothing but original stories; I doubt they would adapt anything literary. However, Disney Animation (“Tangled,” “Frozen,” etc.) could potentially do something like that, save for the fact that they don’t have the movie rights any more. . . or maybe they do; they keep changing hands!
I think I would rather have real people than that kind of animation. Although the older type of animation might work, it’s better to have real actors. That was the reason why I liked the BBC Narnia when it first came out—it was done with real people instead of cartoon characters. Computer animation is fine for special effects, but please have real people play the characters. I would rather look at a person who is actually there. The Narnians in the books were real people to me. 🙂
I 100% want animated Narnia. As cool as these look, I think I would prefer 2D animation though.
Re: uncanny valley… I freely admit that Narnia Latina did a better job than I did on the renderings. XD It was a bit of a toss-up whether or not ToonMe generated an image that looked anything like the character… really cool app, but the artificial intelligence could definitely be a little bit smarter. 😉
C.S. Lewis went to great lengths in the books to emphasize Narnia is no dream world only existing in the children’s imaginations but rather a real place, an alternate reality. Because of that, I don’t think animation is the right fit for these stories, and definitely not this cutesy Disney/Pixar-style.
I’d rather have seen original designs for the characters from the books than “Pixarized/Disneyfied” versions of the actors from the movies.
I think your job with Caspian, Eustace and the White Witch is great… I mean, we tried Caspian but ToonMe made him a girl everytime… in fact, artificial intelligence could definitely be a little bit smarter
I’m actually doing a Narnia movie marathon at the moment lol.
Those are actually pretty cool though… but I think Jadis looks more like Marie Antoinette with that hair.
Not sure if an animated Narnia would be better or worse, but Pixar would probably be our best bet if that happened.
If they made animated Narnia, I personally would want 2D animation.
I’ve been watching some anime movies for the first time over break and am really impressed with how pretty the scenery and expressive the faces can be. I think a “Your Name” style animated Narnia would be amazing:)
Not actually interested in a cartoon of Narnia. Pixar or not.
That would be a wonderful idea let’s try it !
Don’t forget that there is the 1979 animated “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” of course. The animation was made for TV and is not super high quality, but I still think overall it’s a well done piece. I’m personally partial to the Aslan from that one, vs. the Walden film. The fact that the 1979 animated version quotes book lines verbatim is very much in its favor, in my humble opinion.
I would not be opposed to a high budget animated version of Narnia stories. Of course, with modern CGI, well, the Walden “live action” versions *are* partially animated, if you think about it. Perhaps it’s best to let the human characters be real humans!
That looks less like Pixar and more like Dreamworks or Illumination. I think live-action would work better than animation, especially since we have the technology.
I 100% agree with that.
Don’t let Gresham see this 😉
Agreed… On top of that, I’d prefer a whole new animation style to fit Narnia, then anything the other way around.
Those are cute renderings. I used to say I would prefer live-action Narnia, but at this point, I am happy seeing Narnia in anime style as long as it is faithful to the books.
The Pixar-style, though, is the one copied by the other animation companies – except for some exceptions like the Spider-verse movie. It is one that we know works. Dreamworks and Disney tend to copy it, but I don’t see Pixar as being interested in making adaptions, and even Disney and Dreamworks turn their adaptions into movies that are not as recognizable as adaptions (with a notable exception being the Prince of Egypt.)
So do I.
This app is so blursed
I have been thinking about this for a while and would really love to see a Chronicles of Narnia animated film — but stop-motion animation. I know it would take several years to make ! But imagine all the beauty that could be captured in an animation style similar to the stop-motion elements of Mark Osborne’s 2015 ‘The Little Prince’ film. If you get a chance to see that film — look at the fox, and imagine how beautiful Aslan would be, designed and delivered in a similar style. What do you think? It would be bright and colourful — a nice move away from the dark / gritty trends in fantasy cinema.
What a good idea! But as far as I am concerned,it would be better to create the animation of The Silver Chair at first, for I think all narniafans have expected the movie in real people for several years, and so forth,it seems impossible to produce one in a short period.I believe that The movie in 3D would be amazing!
Oh wow. That’s pretty neat. I love seeing fan concept art that actually looks like it could serve as art direction for a movie. I’ve always been open to animated movies for Narnia, seeing as how fantastical many of the elements are in the stories. I’d be open to CGI or 2D. As long as the animation isn’t generic or lacking creative vision. Why even make it, if it doesn’t have a strong art direction?
Just another reason in a long list of why the film rights should have been sold to Disney in the first place.
Oh my gosh that’s so cute and awesome! ^^ That would be cool if Narnia got animated like that…People are so talanted! <3
