Ben Barnes Laments His Prince Caspian Action Figure
In a recent episode of Take the Black Live, Ben Barnes reflected on his role as Caspian in The Chronicles of Narnia movies.
In an amusing exchange early in the discussion, Ben claimed to have “the worst toy of any actor of all time.”
OMG! That is a horrible action figure! It makes him look like Michael Jackson. No wonder he hates it. That one is really bad. And that’s saying something since I don’t consider action figures very good at resembling actors usually.
Heh! It does kind of look like Michael Jackson.
Ha. When my sister and I were younger and the movie first came out, we had our mom take us to all the stores that sold the action figures so we could buy as many as we could afford (which really was not a lot). So I do actually have that action figure. The face does look a little better than in the photo, but maybe that’s because my sister and I looked through all the figures so we could get the ones that looked best.
I had a very similar reaction to seeing this as when I first saw Ben Barnes in the teaser poster to the second Narnia movie: From the shoulders down, he looks like CASPIAN from the books. From the neck up? The Chronicles of Barnsia. 😉 😉
I think this is quite harsh. The figures in this line are pretty cartoony, not striving for realism. And the other figures in the line don’t look any better.
I wish Ben Barnes had gotten the chance to do the Healing of the Harms scene at the end of The Silver Chair. I feel that he (and Will Poulter) deserved it.
That being said, I also feel that the third movie was of lesser quality than the first two, so it’s possible a fourth one would have been even worse. Thinking about it still makes me wistful though sometimes…
I still have the action figures, the problem is, the Aslan, Glenstorm, and Lucy figures have all broken a leg and we were very careful with them and basically just posed them on the shelf being teenagers at the time we bought them. I wish I knew how to fix them. It’s very annoying but they really are the worst made toys, and not just because they do a disservice to Ben Barnes’ face.
The McDonald’s toys from LWW haven’t broken at all yet! And they were so much cheaper!
The Pevensie action figures from LWW look like the actors. They’re better than the ones from PC.
Not that it matters, but the *actual* worst movie tie-in action figure of all time is the original 1993 Dennis Nedry action figure from Jurassic Park. They clearly couldn’t be bothered to come up with an accurate sculpt for Wayne Knight’s physique, so they just got a generic army man figure and called it job done. The character is supposed to be a slobby tech analyst, yet they’ve to him decked out head-to-toe in full-on Commando gear. Baffling.
