Thanks for your review Brian. But a little less bad stuff in the middle next time. ๐ idk I'm scared to see it now, everyone is saying it was bad. But I'm glad it's emotional, if I don't cry then you know they weren't doing there job. I have a question though, when was there a cry-worthy scene other then at the end?
Not to be cruel… (oh I just hate what I'm going to say…!)
I would rather, if they are just going to keep making the Narnia movies like THIS one, that they don't make anymore at all. (Ohh that hurt really bad to say that.)
To be painfully frank and honest, I think we should all wait ten or twelve years and let some REAL fans make it, and make the movie worthy of the legacy C.S. Lewis has given us!
Sorry everyone but it was just…oh I can't even say it.
…well i had trouble focusing on the story of the movie because of skandar. i was to busy drooling over him. lol
im seeing it again tomorrow and im going to try yo focus on the messsage
@Queen Elizabeth "Geeze people. no need to gang up on me. Iโm entitled to opinions too."
Do you not remember that in your previous comment you essentially told glumPuddle to shut his trap? Not to mention everything you said about him is utterly wrong. He never tries to influence how other people view the film, his opinions merely carry more weight among some people because he has a very popular youtube blog. And apparently, his opinions matter to you too because you said you were affected by them.
Additionally, glumPuddle liked LWW and PC. And there are many things glumPuddle even in VDT, but you have to see his full review in order to read them. In his short summary, he only said that he was heartbroken and he didn't like the movie because he was being honest. Overall he didn't like the movie – but that doesn't mean he didn't like everything.
As a concluding note, why do you care if glumPuddle is negative? There are multitudes of NarniaWebbers who have given the movie very high praise. Read those reviews if you feel the need to have other people agree with you in order to like a film, please.
Queen Elizabeth, I'm not sure what reviews you're reading, but from what I've seen, the majority of NarniaWebbers like the film. In fact, NarniaWeb administrator Tirian gave the film high praise, along with many prominent forum moderators.
So, let's do it ! LOL
I think it is a really, really good idea. I bet you someone noticing these movies will eventually make the perfect 'middle ground' ( leaning mainly on the book side , hopefully ! ) t.v mini-series.
Yet I think a regular cartoon series outside the main story ( like they did for Star Wars and so many others ) would be our worst nightmare. But I have confidence for now that D.G. would never allow this.
Great movie, especially the ending. This is a very faithful rendering of the book and I think it will do very well. Please check out my full review if interested.
Just saw the first show in my area and i really enjoyed it!
Positives – 1. I really love Will Poulter as Eustace! The character development was wonderful!
2. I really loved Reepicheep, i thought that i wouldn't like his voice but it was great!
3. When Aslan is telling them they can't come back, it was very well acted and i was defiantly crying. (also loved how during this you got little glimpses of Aslans Country)
Negatives
1. We did not see Aslan change from a lamb into a lion! I was very disappointed by this.
2. It seemed to move almost to quickly and didn't take time to breath until the end.
3. How it didn't show enough of Caspian and Ramus daughter together.
Overall i loved the movie and i will go back and see it again ๐
Haha, thanks! And it is 'sister' ๐ Wow, I saw the movie, and was quite blown away!!! I think I will post a bit of a review, because I have no one to tell really of what I think of it =P
I guess it's true lol. When I watch Prince Caspian at home I always rewind and replay Skandar's scenes. Haha, I love him. This one set interview of him on you tube he'l like, "Yea I slid down the roof over there cause I'm cool like that." lol
You guys are all sounding like hipocrites. I say one comment about not liking someone's post, and it wasn't even in a mean way. And you all gang up on me. Wow. way to get your message across. Aparently I'm not entitled to my opinion either.
After all of the varying reviews, my mind felt quite jumbled. I listened to the audio book (most of it) before I saw the movie, and I decided to simply go with the movie, and compare it to the book and opinions of others afterwards.
Beginning of the film- I was shaking and was between crying and laughing with nervousness and anticipation! And then-WHOOSH! I felt so swept away by everything! To be honest, I think I really need to see it again to get a strong and firm conclusion, but from what I saw today, I was quite delighted!
Narnia is about the characters, about the magic, and most importantly, Aslan. It had the lessons about temptation, redemption, pride, and jealousy. When I first saw Eustace's transforming back to a boy, I thought,
"Oh darn, that was way too fast! They don't even emphasize the real point!"
But then towards the end, (MILD SPOILER?) Eustace talks about how he tried so hard, but couldn't do it on his own.
I would have bawled at the end if I had been the only one there, and if I had not drank so much Sprite =P The ending was so sad, but with a sort of hopeful feeling in the air. I nearly jumped for joy when they kept Aslan's line-
"…You will know me by another name…"
In my opinion, the most important parts were all there!
But anyways, I should probably shutup now. Go see the movie!!! Yes, there will be many many opinions, and many points made, but I think they really had the spirit and magic of Narnia once again! I don't blame those who were disappointed, it is quite different from the book, but the heart is there, I'm quite sure.
So in conclusion, go see it, and you will find out for yourselves whether you like the film or not
The first night I saw it, I wrote a 15 hundred word review on the movie in which I go into a lengthy analysis of characters, themes, technical stuff music, and a whole lot of other stuff that makes up a movie.
I'm guessing nobody really wants to read that, though… ๐
In a snapshot, it was a brilliant movie. Yes, they could have perhaps done something more original with the plot, but apart from that they really stuck true to the characters and they kept the end part in there.
I completely understand the negative reviewers' viewpoint, but my opinion is that it was fantastic and everyone should not be discouraged from seeing it. Make up your mind for yourself!
For the record, about a month ago I didn't want to see VDT. I thought they wouldn't do a good enough job, from listening to all the reviews. Now I have seen it twice, and would see it a third time if I had the money.
For Narnia, AND FOR ASLAN!!!!!!
I couldn't agree more! When I saw him it was like a childhood memory coming to life. He was every bit as beastly, arrogant, annoying and humourous as I imagined as an eight year old!
Absolutely magnificent acting, Will!
Hey, leave the actors alone, the poor things. They probably have enough trouble coping with the publicity without annoying fans trying to pair them up with each other! Let them make their own decisions, for goodness sake!
The narnian actors all have my sympathy when it comes to these things… although it would have been such a privelidge to work on these films. I just wish they would be allowed to enjoy be part of it without being heckled by fans who want to dictate their lives.
i loved itttt!!!!!! it was amazing!! im very glad that susan and peter were in it! but i kinda disapointed that they didint put the part with all four of the pevensies in theire narnian clothes,:( but it was still very goood:) it had a great christian undertone as well!!!!
I tried very, very hard to not read or watch many of the things that were popping up all over the web about the movie. I'll admit to watching all the released clips about three weeks ago and it didn't make me question whether I'd like the movie or not. I just thought I would. I tried to remain neutral as possible, not wanting to set myself up for disappointment.
Visually, the movie was great! I saw it in 3D, but found it distracting and will probably see it again, but in 2D. I think that with a larger budget, it would have been AMAZING! This is something that the Director had no control over the smaller budget and Fox Studio coming on board to take over where Disney left off.
Story wise, there were a few flaws. The movie is an hour and fifty minutes long. And I honestly felt that there were some character development flaws that could have been solved within that time, that weren't.
Lucy- I think that they could have elaborated more on Lucy's insecurity with her own beauty. That was an important part of the book for me, as a woman having had those type of issues. Aslan, in the book, always talked as though she was the most beautiful creature he'd beheld and I didn't feel that Lucy quite made that jump. Thus taking the leap into the Christian parallel that she was made by the hands of God, and his creation… don't mess with what was already beautiful in his eyes.
Edmund- Edmund longed to have the status that came with being a man and the passion for a purpose. Mostly what I saw was a lot of anger which is an easy emotion to go to but I would have liked to have seen more of the struggle with himself. It wasn't the fact that Edmund was a King, he was a man looking for purpose and I didn't see him finding it.
Eustace- Will Poulter STOLE THE SHOW! I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved this kid! He was able to develop and evolve as a character and he didn't even have to say anything at times. I don't have one bad thing to say about him at all.
As for certain additives such as bring back the White Witch and the MLG (Gael), I don't think that they hurt the story. But I did ask myself the question of "What was the point of Gael?" Personally the money paid for the little girl to be in the movie could have gone towards something else.
*here comes the MINOR spoilers*
I could be really nit picky about how I always pictured Aslan digging deeper to remove Eustace's scales or the fact that they didn't elaborate that Ramadu's daughter was made Caspian's wife and thus becoming the mother of Rilian, or the fact that you didn't see the lamb turn into Aslan in the end. But two of those three were the Christian parallels that cause for controversy, I understand making it "friendly for all", but Jack didn't make a story that caused security, but rather insecurity. C.S Lewis was a very out spoken Christian and to tamper with that, in my opinion, is insult to who and why C.S Lewis wrote these books in the first place.
*end spoiler alert*
All in all, the "MOVIE" was awesome… FOR. THE. MOVIE. But does a movie EVER compare to the book? No! I'll be honest with a lot of you who were disappointed, I think some had their expectations so high, NOTHING was going to reach them. I actually think that's what happened when GlumPuddle saw the movie. I went in as neutral as possible and was left feeling pretty pleased. I hope that they create Silver Chair. It'll give a fresh new start with ALL NEW CHARACTERS! Plus, it's MY favorite book of the seven. ๐
I came into the theater with very low expectationsโฆand guess what! I was surprised at how much I ended up liking the movie. I kind of agree with Queen Elizabeth on the issue of posting lots of negative comments on this page. We're NarniaWebbers, people! If we don't support the franchise, who will?
Great review, Daniel! I feel the same way (I went go see it this afternoon) except about the part of the beginning being slow…Also, glad to hear it wasn't "too scary" in 3D. Hopefully, I'll be able to see it in 3D soon…
Well, now it's time to buy the soundtrack!
P.S. By the way, I changed my name from "Anonymous" to "Ballerina", just to let you know I am the same person from A_______, TX. ๐
Overall it was great, but I thought some part of the story was trimmed a little bit. I can't believed I cried at the end of the movie. I'm definitely watching it again. I don't if it just me, but I could definitly see that the budget was considerably less than Prince Caspian.
By the way, Daniel, (and anyone for that matter) did you enjoy/like VDT better/more than Prince Caspian? In addition, YES, I felt the same way…."For the first 15ish minutes, I could barely even comprehend that I was FINALLY actually watching the movie, because I was so excited." Me too! I can not believe I have waited two years and seven months for this film…WOW.
Dawn Treader is my favorite book, and I thought the movie was brilliant. I get all the changes. I love every moment of it. By the end, I was crying my eyes out, I felt depressed with those last shots they were so beautiful and sad at the same time, just perfect.
Im with queen… If you want to be negative, than wait… atleast give the film its first week before you publically start slagging it!!! there will be people who will be put off seeing the film by these comments, people that may have walked out of the cinema very happy with what they had just seen… so C'mon give it a chance… as u say your the minority, so dont put so much emphisis on your dissapointment to the extent that you may affect the majority… well not just yet anyways! haha BTW I was blown away by the film… saw it last saturday night, and going again tonight! ๐
omg just saw the movie and it was amazing~!!!!!!!!!!i cryed like a baby at the end.i just wanted to hug aslan really tight!!!!loved every secod of it,just wanna see it over, and over, and over, agaiin!!!!!!!!i fell in love with reepicheep!!!!!!georgie, skandar, and especially will deserve the award of the year.i mean will was absolutely amazing!!!!!!!some things i would have done differently but overall GREAT message for christians or for any one really,it was almost exactly like the book.but i didnt see the shot were all the pevensie walk together at the end of trailer one.huh im curious why they left it out lol.GO SEE THE MOVIE PEOPLE, NO MATTER WHAT MOVIE CRITICS SAY IS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.(the critics are just haters because is more for a christian audience, but im sure any christian or narniafan wont be disappointed cause i sure wasnt);)
YAAAAY!!!! ๐ I just saw the movie tonight and I LOVED IT! ๐ It was wonderful! There were several changes, but I definitely didn't feel like they ruined the movie at all. ๐ I felt that Skandar, Georgie, and Ben did a wonderful job, and Will Poulter… I've got to agree with Caspian's Gurl: He did amazing! I was really nervous to see how he would do in portraying Eustace, and he did great! I also agree with LittlePrincess64: That last scene was a tear-jerker. :'( It was definitely both lovely and very sad, and I was definitely choking back tears. I love the way the movies have ended, and yet I hate it at the same time. They pull me in so much that when it's time for the heros to return to our world, I feel depressed along with them.
Well, all in all, I loved the movie and am planning on seeing it again! ๐
One word…AMAZING! I think it may be my favorite of the three. We all need to support it so that they can go on to make the next. I used to like Narnia simply because of my respect and fascination for their author. As I has began following this film deeply the past few months, I am beginning to get a deeper love for the stories themselves.
Above all else, my prayer is that through these films more people will be shown God's grace and eternal salvation. Glory to God!
I personally loved this movie, I went to see it today and I'm still thinking about it! And though sometimes I can be 'purist' in my thinking, I'm willing to admit that most of the changes were necessary. After all, story-telling in a book and story-telling in a movie are two very different things. In fact I think it was rather clever to use the green mist, it ties in with the Silver Chair. (Hopefully we'll be seeing that one next!)
However I do think that all the scenes with the White Witch were overdone (if they cast her as the Lady of the Green Kirtle I don't know what I'll do,) and I also think Gael was unnecessary. There were a number of lines and scenes that I would have liked to see, and I wanted to see Caspian and Lilliandil's weddin', but I don't feel it right to quibble about small things.
On the whole they captured nearly all the important parts, and I was very pleased with all they kept in. I nearly cried at the end, and I don't cry at movies OR books, but the Narnia books have always been able to threaten me with tears, so I figure if the movie evokes the same feelings that I get reading the book, then it's a success. I'll be seeing it again when it comes to the dollar-fifty theatre, (I nearly depleted my funds to take me and my sister, but it was so worth it!) and I want the DVD for my birthday.
So anyway, that is my four cents' worth. ๐ Thanks for listening, and go see the movie!
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Movie
Good points: Much better than Prince Caspian Movie. There were some great heartfelt moments, especially the last 10 minutes of the movie. I loved the line by reepicheep saying the without faith we have nothing. The special effects were done well.
Bad Points: Nothing like the book, as expected. The chronology was all wrong. Islands were melded together, whole sequences of the book were missing completely, and what is the most disturbing is that it did not even feel like a voyage! More like a short day trip.
Final opinion: As a stand alone movie, it was fun to watch and much better than most movies they spill out the the mundane hollywood box nowadays. As a book adaptation? Totally wrong!
I say go out and enjoy it. It is probably the best of the three Narnia movies so far, definitely better than "caspian". It was fun,but hopefully people will still read the book if they never have before.
I saw it opening night with some friends, we all dressed up as Narnians. Personally I thought it was the best of the three. I didn't think Andrew was experianced enough and I am glad they got a new director. I thought the acting improved greatly and the whole scope of the film was an a larger scale then the other two were. I went in a little skeptical so it was nice to be proven wrong. If you look at it as not being related to the books the movie was amazing. But I thought it was good for a Narnia movie. I do need to see it again to sort out my thoughts on it.
I would have to mostly agree yet partially disagree with GlumPuddle. I disagree with him because as a stand alone movie, I enjoyed it and found it entertaining. BUT this movie was NOT Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I love watching people who either can't or won't spell things correctly, use proper grammar, or use punctuation properly call others stupid. The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
So basically, people have a right to their opinion as long as it's your opinion. Perhaps you might want to start your own fansite where you can enforce your ridiculous demands.
Does anyone know what Apted meant by writing "the book that C.S. Lewis never did"? Something about it being between VDT and SC. I didn't understand what in this movie he was talking about.
Thanks for your review Brian. But a little less bad stuff in the middle next time. ๐ idk I'm scared to see it now, everyone is saying it was bad.
It was fun,but hopefully people will still read the book if they never have before.
finally some one that understand me!!!!!!!! yey!!!! i agree with u 100%
Thnx!!!!!!! another person that thinks like me!!! bless you =). Im tiered, lol of telling ppl that the movie is based!!!!
I know. Our tiny one screen theatre doesn't get it till the 31st. ๐
My thoughts exactly!!
I wouldn't mind reading your review. Do you have a blog?
I would have to mostly agree yet partially disagree with GlumPuddle. I disagree with him because as a stand alone movie, I enjoyed it and found it entertaining. BUT this movie was NOT Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Saw it twice!! XD
I love watching people who either can't or won't spell things correctly, use proper grammar, or use punctuation properly call others stupid. The irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
What do you mean by "trying to sound grown-up"? Do you mean writing posts that don't look like they were written by an ADD-ridden toddler?
So basically, people have a right to their opinion as long as it's your opinion. Perhaps you might want to start your own fansite where you can enforce your ridiculous demands.
Quit attacking people then. ๐
Though I'm skipping the film, I'm happy to hear that most are enjoying it. Hope you all have a great time at the theater!
I would also like to read it.
This is movie is Perfect!
Please,I need Silver Chair *-*
But this film need our support if we ever want to see SC!!!
I was getting ready to ask what you thought of the film, Bookworm ๐ My bad!
I understand what you're saying Queen Elizabeth. But you gotta calm down and stop thinking everyone's against you!
Does anyone know what Apted meant by writing "the book that C.S. Lewis never did"? Something about it being between VDT and SC. I didn't understand what in this movie he was talking about.
