The Plotline of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Last week, the German publisher for the Narnia books released two movie tie-ins, which translate to ‘Photos from Narnia’ and ‘The Book on Film.’
NarniaWebber icarus ordered a copy of ‘Photos from Narnia’, and when it arrived yesterday, he translated it the best he could and typed up the full plot summary for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie.

I have not read through it myself as I want some things to be a surprise for the movie, but if you don’t mind being completely spoiled, read on!

Overall reaction? *bliss* I love this!! 😀 It's *SO* perfect and at last we know *WHY* Peter and Susan end up in Narnia! =D Apted was right, it was perfectly good!! 😀 She did rip out the page 🙁 *bawls*! Oh well, it didn't RUIN Lucy.

Ugh, this is how I felt when the PC plot was revealed. First shock, then denial, then moaning and complaining, then a fatalistic attitude, then reluctant acceptance. Overall, I don't really like the new plot. But oddly enough I like most of the details (OTHER than the seven swords and soul-sucking darkness. I also don't like the Narrowhaven part, but I'd already given that island up for lost and maybe it will look better on film).
I'm glad Caspian originally starts the voyage to search for the seven lords, and doesn't find about the LOST SOULS until he reaches Narrowhaven.
I like that Lucy doesn't seem to have a crush on Caspian, and I don't mind that she has a vanity subplot. It's just a bit more expanded than the book.
Goldwater sounds good. On the surface the Dark Island doesn't sound so bad, and I guess I can handle having the sea serpent there. I just hope it isn't made out of green mist.
I'm not too worried about Eustace's transformation yet. We don't know the whole story, and I'm sure it will be better than it sounds. It would be silly just to have Aslan appear and *POOF* flash of light–Eustace is a boy again. I think there's more to the scene than that.
I'm so glad Lucy will pray to Aslan, and she'll see the Albatross. I was hoping for that.
I'm not so sure about the ending. It doesn't sound that bad, but not that good either. Hope it'll look different in the movie.
Yeah, there are a bunch of things I don't like. But what I remember from Prince Caspian is that the plot always looks worse when it's written out concisely and dryly from a movie storybook. Right now I just hope that the good parts will outshine the bad parts in the movie. At least the White Witch wasn't mentioned. 🙂

This is how I felt when the Susan/Caspian romance was announced for PC. Irritated, indignant, and furious. I weep for my Canon. Why, oh WHY couldn't the blasted moviemakers just forget hollywood and make a GOOD, true to the book Narnia film? THE BOOKS ARE POPULAR FOR A REASON!
*ahem* Sorry. I don't like the whole 'darkness thing' nor the seven swords. The dufflepuds and Eustace-as-a-dragon, and the Lone Islands…all of it has lost the gleam of Narnia-ism, of adventure and Lewisness. It's like they've taken the bare details of the book and rewritten it to make it more 'appealing' to the masses. Uh-huh. Try APPALLING. Or abhominable (with an 'h').
Anyone for remaking the films?
I am not going to read it, now. I will probably end up reading it. I'm only doing some of the spoilers. I can't wait till December!!!!!! Keep the story of Aslan alive!!

The english version is called "The Movie Story Book" (the details on the inside cover of the "Fotos aus Narnia" book plus the contents of it reveals them to be the same book). It is currently set for release in the UK, Canada, Australia and every other HarperCollins english speaking territory at the end of this month – except the USA for some reason. I don't know why, but i just can't find it listed on any american online retail site at all.
oh sorry. 🙁 But yeah, poor Lu! He, he, after PC this new one tends to follow the book verses PC =) At least it's better! 🙂 If this is the best we get, I'll take it!! 🙂 And I'll be happy since I want to see the rest of the movies made! =D
I'm not for remaking them at all, I LIKE the films! Susan/Caspian was out there, I'll admit, only I still like PC anyhow, but VDT sounds fine to me thus far, I think you guys are being too harsh on the movie-makers.
But, for you guys at least (though I would watch it too, to tell you the truth, since I love Narnia to bits), they should make a cartoon Narnia based on pauline baynes drawings and have it be WORD FOR WORD by the book, because that's the only way some of you will be contented.
Personally I like the movies, I'm not saying you have to like them too, only that I wish you wouldn't outright call them (or imply, rather) that they are bad movies. Cuz some people (like myself) would beg to differ. It's all how you look at it, darlings, it's all how you look at it.
What's more if we do a remake, we'd have to get someone OTHER than Georgie to play Lucy Pevensie and she's done such a great job that no one else can BE Lucy like she can…it would just be another round of rough comparison…so the problem deepens.
Let the movies be, my friend. Don't like em, don't watch em.

I read like half of it, just scrolling over it quick, and I read more of the beginning, not so much of the end.
I hated it. There was barely a good part in it. Now if they left out a lot of details in this book, and poorly described some of the scenes, it might still be OK. But I don't know, I just lost the energy that normally comes with anticipation.

I think it is sad when the plot line of a movie based on a book has to be such a huge spoiler to people who have read the book.

You all realize that this has been greatly trimmed, many things have been left out.
The only thing that frightens me is the dragon transformation, from the looks of it, you don't even see it happening, Octesian isn't a dragon, just a skeleton and his transformation isn't dipping into a pool.
That's the only thing that angers me
i was literally sobbing last night when i read this. i don't get why they think they have to altar everything to have an interesting movie!! i'm seriously get mad about this

how can you be so blind? It follows the book?? No it doesn't, not in the least respect! They DID add a soul-eating place of doom, just like in the leaked script *throws up*. They DID COMPLETELY RUIN Eustace's transformation. Aslan just…makes him flash and he's back??? NO NO NO!! He's supposed to try and tear the dragon scales off, and then surrender to Aslan and let him tear into him with is claws. This is disgusting.

I read it, couldn't resist:). Some of the plot sounds good, like the start, then the whole "Dark Evil" plot is terrible. What I can't understand is WHY they would feed slaves to the darkness. I mean in the book it was so much simpler, they enslaved people so they could use them as slaves, you know. I've also noticed that there is absolutely no mention of Calormen, at all. This could be for political reasons, I mean the political reasons behind it could be the whole reason for the plot change in the area of the slaves. It probably would look a little bit ugly in the media if there was a plot in any film that had "Calormenes" or the present day equivelent of what they represent being evil, dirty, and enslaving people. I mean the whole UN would declare a boycott on the movie or something drastic, and I bet that's why they changed it.
Doesn't make it any better for fans though……

I don't even know what to say. It's like each movie they stray further and further from C.S. Lewis' work. I was perfectly fine with the changes in Caspian, until Peter met Caspian and then the raid scene. That scene would have been so much better if they had done that near the beginning when the Pevensies are not there. Like one of the battles Trumpkin describes in the book.
But this is so far from the story that I honestly can't believe it. The seven swords? I can do with changes. Honestly I can. But I cannot stand the tearing up of this book. I can watch the BBC version and love it 10 times better if this is the best that Michael Apted and Fox can do. I expected more than that.
I am for it. Give me the place and time. And if you could put me as the scriptwriter, I will be in debt to you for a long time. First one was great, second one was alright, third one is going to give me the creeps. I just don't understand. I mean, I don't like movies to go word for word with the book, but for the plot to at least remain the same for both would be a nice touch. I honestly don't want to see another "We must save Narnia" film right now. VODT was supposed to give you a slight break so that you would still continue to SC. I hate this plot

I'm confused. What about the scene with Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy walking? And it can't be whenLucy goes through the mirrror because she would've been as Susan.
I would like if some people could calme down. Eustace's transformation can't be ruined, as we heard him describe it almost exactly like in the book in the Fun for Family Hour clip. I take the evidence of an actual clip we have seen over any from-german-translated text. Don't give up hope because of this very simplyfied text.

I don't care who the romance is between, but they need some if they want the Twihearts (P.S. I am not one because bella is shallow and the books are boring. Narnia, Hunger Games and Maximum Ride FTW) but all of my buds are twihearts, and nuts for romance.

It seems like Hollywood has taken yet another thing from me (Harry Potter and 1/2 blood prince movie strayed sooooo far away from the book) and Percy Jackson.

Well, excuse me, but unless they find a way to bring C.S. Lewis back from the dead, there's no way it's going to be as if he were the one making all the calls on the movie plot. All we've got is his stepson, deal with it. If you want the books, read the books, they're WONDERFUL books. But don't bash on someone or make snippy comments to someone just because you personally (As well as some others) don't like the movies. Just cuz YOU hate them, doesn't mean everyone else has to as well. I can like them if I want, and it doesn't mean, if I like them, that I don't love C.S. Lewis's Masterpiece, either! Cuz I DO. Why can't a person like both the book and the movie without people getting on their case for not agreeing with them going, "oh, yeah, this is going to be terrible I'm gonna vote to remake it before I even SEE it cuz I know everything even though I just have VERY ROUGH idea of the movie plot anyhow!"?

Though some of the stuff of the plot seemed a bit bad, such as the way Aslan changed Eustace back seemed a bit bad, it is just a tie-in book. That doesn't mean the movie will be exactly like this. Besides, remember the Sea of Lilies clip? According to Eustace, he couldn't rip the skin off himself. Only Aslan could. Besides, some of the stuff in here was funny, like with Eustace thinking the faun was his mother.
oh my goodness! this is so much! i love it!!!! i've learned some new stuff, and some stuff i've already known that have been thoroughly explained now, like what happens at their little skirmish that we had heard about before but werent sure what happened at it. and i like how they are seperated. it gives more intensity to the event. and i just love how Drinian and Tavros come in by disguise and basically rescue them. that made me smile!
the Lucy-beauty spell-Susan thing is really interesting. i was quite surpised about the part where she tries the spell again and Susan actually steps through, and then Peter and Edmund appear but dont know who she is. i suppose we all know now thats the "cameo" Peter and Susan have. and im not upset about it. it sounds really cool, and creates that personal struggle within Lucy. oh my i am really, REALLY excited right now! oh, i just cant wait! eeee!!!!!

Oooh, I just read it. It makes me feel really depressed (should I be feeling depressed over a movie? I think I'm justified when I've grown up loving the book that it's supposedly based on, and then they ruin the whole story). It's like with Prince Caspian. They've taken all the light and joy and good, wholesome adventure out of it and turned it dark and disturbing and depressing. What's all this about the dufflepuds being made invisible to protect them from the darkness? That takes all the fun and joy of the dufflepuds out. And this whole thing about swords and darkness? I can't stand it! At least we still have the BBC version of it, which keeps the whole storyline and spirit of the book intact (that is, those of us who like the BBC Narnia). Oh, dear. If I do go see it, it won't be because I'm excited. I'm just interested to see how much they really can butcher a story. I have a feeling it will be worse than PC in many ways.
But I am glad I read the spoilers. I'm prepared for whatever they throw at me (I think); I'm glad I knew about 'the kiss' in PC ahead of time.
ok, i'd like to say that i do find your comment a bit dramatic and overboard. no one here, NO ONE i say, can judge this movie yet. unless anyone of you have seen it, which i doubt. i perfectly understand why you dont like some of the changes. i dont like them either. in fact there's one change right now thats nearly putting me to tears, but i am not judging it. i have never said that it is going to be terrible, or even that these movie makers are horrible. i havent met them, so i cant say anything. and we cant say such horrible things about it. i'd like to persuade you, when you see the movie, to have no judgement or idea of it and watch it with no thought in mind. then you will have all the ability in the world to fully judge it afterwards. but right now, can i please say to everyone who is kind of hating on it at the moment, to not do so. i dont care if you judge it personally to yourself, you can perfectly do that, but can you please keep these comments to yourself and not on here. its quite annoying and a bit rude in my opinion to say such things when we have not seen it yet. thank you! for Narnia!
Buying slaves just to feed them to the Dark Island is mind-bogglingly stupid. If the people are being kidnapped into slavery to begin with, why not just go capture your own slaves instead of paying for them?
I agree. People should wait until they see the movie before they pass their final judgment. Hollywood is going to change the plot to make it more exciting for the audience. It's what they do. I say go to the theaters when VDT comes out with an open mind and see how the movie goes, because if one has it in their head that it's going to be bad it will be. I personally am going to try to keep an open mind.
I think that's what bugs me most about this whole thing… It's illogical. Hope it will make SLIGHTLY more sense in the movie.
You guys have gotta understand that when they make a book into a movie it's is an adaptation not a direct translation. Yes PC was a little out there compared to the book but you guys need to learn to like the movie separate from the book. Just think of it as a different version of the story. Anyway everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I understand that but if you guys are looking for a movie that is exactly like the book then I suggest that you just don't see the movie because it will never be exactly the same.

Also if you guys had carefully read at the top of the plot line description it said that the translation was a little iffy so you should've taken it with a grain of salt, so breathe people it's going to be okay 🙂

Yeah, I like to know the worst parts of the movie so when I watch it I can try to ignore them and focus on the good parts. I like thinking up the worst-case scenario and then being pleasantly surprised when it doesn't turn out so bad. Maybe you'll find some things you'll like in the movie. Take heart. 🙂

I notice you don't nag on people who, like youself, aren't pleased with the changes of the plot; but when you come up against someone who thinks differently, who is still set on enjoying this movie, anything defense she says or any backfiring comments she tries to showcase HER thoughts on the matter, which at least, even if they aren't the best, or expressed in the nicest way (yes, i have to work on that, but you don't know the emotionally draining week I've been through) aren't always negtive and are trying to enjoy a great author/book series/movie series/fandom without all this, "oh no the movie is going to STINK!" before I've (or you've) EVEN SEEN IT, you're ready to call me snippy and rude and what-not. Well, what does the Bible say about not looking at the straw in your brother's eye when there's a rafter in your own?
