Narnia.com Update Hints at Ramandu’s Role
You can now disembark at Ramandu’s Island over at Narnia.com.
Since there has been no casting announcement for Ramandu, fans have speculated that his character has been cut from the film. But this update has cast some doubt.
“Near the edge of the world, old Ramandu watches. How long has he been observing the events of this world, and exactly how far does his gaze extend?”
Does this mean that Ramandu will appear in the film after all? Or will he simply be referenced in the dialogue?
You can also download this background as a wallpaper. The scene appears very much as it is described in chapter 13 of the book.
Thanks to Cyclops from AslansCountry.com!
Still liking the design of this film. This looks very much how I imagined.
In my mind, I never thought of Ramandu as an essential character in the story. The magician, yes, Ramandu's daughter, yes, Aslan, absolutely. But really his role is just to tell the crew about the three sleeping men. His daughter could do that as well.
On the other hand, since Apted would like to emphasize the magic in Narnia, his role may become key. One of my favorite "magic" moments is his old-to-young-star conversion.
Even these little things make me more and more anxious to see this movie.
This is the best Narnia News Day in a loooonnngggg time 😀
I'm estatic.
:Dx 100000000000000000000000000000000000………….
This is a beautiful set. From what I have seen, we are in for a beautiful movie. The production designer did a great job.
He's such an interesting character, but sadly not essential to the plot.
That would be horrible if they cut Ramandu. Because he tells such an interesting story about how he used to be a star and how the magician used to be a star. Besides, this also helps with the morals of the story, because it lends to the idea that a young man (like Caspian) must ask the permission of the father (Ramandu) in order to marry his daughter. It lends to the idea that a man must have the father's blessing to pursue his daughter.
Thats a really good point…even if a character is in a very small role of a story…it can still bring out alot of morals and meanings to the story and other characters…maybe Ramandu does have a really small role in the film….and maybe the portrayol is not credited to play the character…but who knows we have to wait to watch the actual 2 hr film to find out 🙂
What strikes me as weird is that, if you look closely up where Caspian is, is that Eustace next to him? If Eustace doesn't get un-dragoned until the Dark Island, which comes later, why is he standing next to Caspian. Anyway, great pic, RD looks beautiful!
I've had a ton of problems with this film, but I love the look of the sets. I haven't paid enough attention to the crew names to know who is responsible, but they do fantastic work. Aslan's Table is gorgeous.
I totally agree with you glumPuddle!!
This truly upsets me! A woman is not a belonging to her father and does not need anyones permission to marry!
I'm kind of surprised they didn't stick Caspian next to Ramandu's daughter…
see? *maybe* we're just not getting the whole story? Fox *does* seem a little tighter with what they let 'leak' than Disney was…
Yeah, Ramandu isn't really vital. I could definately live if he wasn't shown. He exists obviously in the movie, whether or not he's ever shown 🙂 But wow, that IS a georgeous wallie! Ya know, I'm soooo glad they switched directors. The scenery for this is just awesome and plain 'beautiful'.
I always thought Narnia sets and armour shouldn't look 'too' kidish, I mean why should the Narnia animals and creatures condesend and make themselves look kiddish when just a few kids come. I always thought the *look* (Secens and armour) should look real and adultish (like in LotR, it looks *REAL* while some of the Narnia armour in LWW looked kinda like toys at least some of it). I had always thought from the books that it wasn't the adults going down on the kid's level, but the kids had to STEP UP to the adult realm and be heroes by Aslan's power.
So Apted realized this in the way things look. It looks so much more authentic than some of the stuff we saw in LWW. It looks like the kids came here and got caught up in an adventure, not that the creatures just made them a few toys. It feels like Narnia now, the Narnia that I had always seen in the books 🙂
Lucy looks nice with her hair down 🙂
I love the idea of the young man asking the father. I can tell you that's what's going to be happening in my family. It shows respect and consideration.
Beautiful island. As for Ramandu, I still haven't lost hope.
Wait a second, I just saw boy Eustace next to Caspian. That means he will be turned back into a dragon before the Dark Island.
Yes, they seam to be paying attention to detail and design…and it's looking stunning. Also At the top, Caspian is with Eustace…and Eustace is a boy. I wonder if that means he will be turned back by then.
Maybe the story is that Eustace comes to Ramandu's Island as a dragon and is also undragoned at Ramandu's Island after his fight with the sea serpent as a dragon at Dark Island.
I love it!
Yes, it looks great!
No, the order of the islands has changed for the movie. In the movie, to wake the sleepers up, they have to go to Dark Island.
OMG there's music!!!!! It's beautiful!!!
Uhh, a woman isn't her dad's property. Besides, I'm pretty sure that Ramandu's role in the story has nothing to do with his ownership of his daughter. 😉
wow this place is beautiful! Lucy looks lovely in this picture! oh its just so beautiful! i cannot wait to see this place on screen!
Looks beautiful!!!
hey they're playing the song "To Aslan's Camp" from the first film. thats pretty funny 🙂
I think Thyservant is right.
YAY! I love Ramandu!!!
Ramandu could still appear in VDT; but just as a star. At least they are referring to him in some way. 🙂
The table looks great and I like the Dawn Treader anchored in the bay nearby.
OK, at the end of the table, there's an old guy with lots of hair, so he must be one of the lords. Why is he awake?
He IS such a fascinating character! He's mysterious like Gandalf or Galadriel, or Poseidon, or Merlyn. I really love those kinds of characters – the ones that leave so much to be imagined.
Um this picture is from after he's awakened?
No, a woman definitely does not BELONG to her father. But I do think she should have his permission, if she has a good relationship with him (her father). I would feel absolutely horrible if I married someone my father did not like, because I know from experience that my father is wiser than I am. I seek his advice and his approval.
You haven't even SEEN the movie yet. Don't be a wet blanket! 😉
this is just a compilation of pictures from the movie and illustrations, not a single screenshot from the actual movie, which could explain why Eustace is not a Dragon in this picture. Fox is a hiding a lot of the actual storyline
The colors remind me of a tropical sea reef. Really pretty in my opinion. Very appropriate. 🙂
UH I hate it
Yeah, another addition to the confusion. But it sounds like Eustace turns into a human later on on Ramandu's Island. Still confusing though! :S
This island is fantastic! Lilliandil is beautiful, and the island looks better than I could've ever imagined! 😀
What annoys me the most is that Eustace and Caspian are so far away, and shouldn't Caspian be standing next to Lilliandil?
Oh well, I am still very hyper for this island, and the other islands we've seen so far, now! 😉
wow! love this! 🙂
noly thing is, when you click the thing for the game, it doesn't show up…..
It's playing on a lot of the website.
I like how Edmund's staring at Lilliandil. 😛
I love this it is so Beautiful! But I imagined this scene during the day time and not at night, actuallu I think it would look great with the sun just starting to set.
Maybe it is Lord Rhoop. The Lord from Dark Island. Just an idea.
Well, you can kind of tell it's a picture that was photoshopped in…all of them look that way, in fact.
It is a very nice picture. But wwhhyyyyyyyy must they ruin it with the swords??? Those swords ruin it all. 🙁
Very depressing. I have a question though? what is Lilandil looking at? Notice she's not looking at them?
Another thing. Remember in the trailer you see the swords kinda dissapear into the sky? I think perhaps Lilandil flies away with them.
It looks as if he's staring at something in the distance than directly at her. It's most likely that Caspian and Eustace will be next to her too, it's just copied and pasted pictures for a wallpaper.
and the swords were too, they don't line up right…
Has anyone else noticed that there are six swords on the table, and Edmund has his yet?
I also notice what appears to be a mirror in the background, with possibly a monitaur rflected in it.
I've seen the same picture of Edmund and Lucy in this in a totally different setting. I think they do the thing where they cut and paste a character in a scene, like on the movie poster. They probably posed for this at totally different times.
I love how you can see one of the lords all harry and old at one end of the table haha 🙂
When I try clicking on it, it just takes me to the homepage. I really hope it comes out soon, because I love Narnia Trivia! ;D
ha ha
The Lord on the end of the table looks sorta like a Puddleglum… sorta
Though there may be some plot changes to the story, I understand with this book: the book really is more episodic. I understand the need for changes: but I am really appreciative of how much they are attempting to take care in the detail of the spirit and imagery of the book. This scene in particular excites me: it fits my imagination very much, like the Dawn Treader itself has. It brings me back a little bit to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: there were several scenes in that movie that looked exactly like I expected them to, namely the wardrobe room, Lantern Waste, and Tumnus' cave. I think I am going to be very pleased with this film.
Is anyone else freaked out about the rumors that they may not make any more Narnia movies? If they don't I will have to protest.
Interesting. First off, the design of Ramandu's Island looks beautiful. Better than I imagined it.
Second, that's cool that there's still a possibility that Ramandu could still be in the film, even if he's not seen.
Though I have my doubts at this time. Either way, it seems Ramandu will have a very small part in the film. 🙁
…Oh, and glad to see Ramandu's Daughter not glowing blue for once. lol That's more how I imagined her.
Oh, wait, is that Edmund in the background with Caspian?
Hmmmm, maybe that is for after they defeat Dark Island… Bleh, that still sounds ridiculous. Defeating an Island???
Oh well. Won't be long now till film comes out.
Aslan's mane! Out of all the islands I've sailed to, Ramandu's Island is the most beautiful and magical so far.
