Interesting Narnian Classroom Activity: SPOILERS
Scholastic has posted a play script aimed towards teachers, which allows students to act out The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It would seem that the plot of this play parallels (at least to some degree) the plot of the upcoming film. The script is interspersed with several images that we have already seen before, but does contain a new image of the Chief Dufflepud.
The script is available to download here.
Does this script confuse you? Excite you? Scare you? Talk about it on the NarniaWeb.com forums by clicking here.
Thanks to icarus for the heads up.
I think the real movie will be somewhat different from this script. But still it's interesting to read. Hmm…the crew is on a mission to stop the evil green mist? Lilliandil is a blue fairy? Okay, I'm HOPING that the real movie will be somewhat different from this script.
Like the picture of Chief Dufflepud! Still not the way I pictured him, but it's all right. I wonder how much screen time the Dufflepuds will have?
To read or not to read. That is the question.
I love the chief dufflepud! Though I had hoped he would look a little more comical; hopefully his speech will make up for that.
It doesn't tell you the whole plot of the movie. In fact, it says you should watch the movie to find out what happens next. But there are a few spoilers.
From all the available evidence we've gathered over the last few months about the nature of the changes made to the plot, i doubt the final movie will be in any way majorly different to the plot as it is presented there…. with the exception of Liliandil being a fairy of course 😉
Yeah, I'm also sure this was edited for the classroom because the play looks like it was meant for third grade or under, and they didn't want them to be confused.
I believe They wount be as comical, as they are in the book, because C.S.Lewis is one of the few authors who manages to bring something as comical as the dufflepuds up, without making the story sound totaly ridiculous. It's very hard to get that right in a movie. i think thats also, why they have a reason, why they are turned invisible. they seem to not be the cowardly, silly, comical creatures from the book, who would turn them selves invisible, just to not have to see each other any more. in the movie they're turnd invisible, to be protected from the *evil darkness*
I think it will be very cool to read over the script and I'm going right now to go do that!
So now they're on a voyage to stop this evil green mist? ?*Sigh* I'm not feeling too great about this… 🙁
hey iCarus. I agree with what your saying. but I have a theory. If it is true and the last sword IS at the Dark Island…would that possibly mean the Witches knife? At Ramandu's island in the trailer. There are Swords (6 or 7) and the White Witches knife is WITH them. I wonder if her knife is considered a sword they need and her 'spirit'?? is maybe guarding it and they need to pass through or …gulp…defeet her and get the knife…just a theory. 🙂
Aslan: hullo lucy.
Lucy: how'd you get here?
(corny! in a funny way!)
Reepicheep: who thought of the sea serpent?
Edmund: sorry, it was me. I couldn't help it!
ROTFL! That is TOO funny! I'm dying from laughter!
But it sounds like it's *BASED* off the script but obviously greatly altered. We know already that Ed and Caspian meet Lord Bern in prison. But I suspect the part about Eustace taking the sword in his shoulder and fainting at Aslan's table *might* be true, but I suspect awesome and dramatic…
*lord rhoop stabs eustace*
Lucy: oh no! (me: cracks up)
And I really doubt the part about the 'mist coming up behind Eustace and turning him into a dragon' is movie stuff since it's for a play. Obviously they can't show a lot of spectacular imagery etc. And no need to fret about Aslan/dragonEustace and the 'roar' part. Again it's a play and how do you show a dragon losing his skin on a play? 😉
interesting to note Coriakin says: 'why'd you change my creatures?' to Lucy. Obviously the Dufflepuds are just LIKE the ones from the book… they're too stupid and 'dense' to understand Coriakin's reasons for making them invisible. Just their reason for being invisible is different =D
Cool information. But, one thing questions me by that picture… what is he holding in his hand? Cause from the look of it, it almost looks like The White Witch's wand. Which, I don't see why or how he would have it… also considering the wand is completely smashed and broken and no use anymore. Or maybe it's the end of it that makes me see that… can't tell if it's an ice crystal or a feather.. if it's a feather that makes MORE sense lol.
I was perhaps thinking along the lines of it being that the Seven Swords placed over the Stone Knife destroy the Dark Island – with the Stone Knife being the source of the Dark Island's evil. But that's just speculation on my part.
It's just a spear. 🙂 We've seen in a photo before that the Dufflepuds are armed with spears.
I'd be fairly certain that the but about ‘mist coming up behind Eustace and turning him into a dragon’ IS actually in the movie. Not only does it fit with everything we've learned about the Dark Island's "Malevolent Mist" being integral to all the "tempatation" moments within the movie, but in one of the VBS Package clips we saw Eustace in the treasure filled valley turning around just as some smoke was entering the shot.
Some people speculated at the time that it was the second Dragon, but it's more or less been confirmed now that the presence of the second dragon won't be in the movie, so i would be fairly confident in saying that the smoke entering the shot in that clip was the "Evil Mist" or "Malevolent Mist" as it's variously been described as in reports from the past.
Pepper Darcy, I almost laughed at the dialog too. It's so funny and simplified! 😀
Edmund: Sorry, it was me, I couldn't help it.
Lol!!! Sounds like he got caught eating someone's dessert, or screaming like a girl or something! And I can just picture Lucy gasping, slapping her hands to her face, and saying, "Oh no!" when Rhoop stabs Eustace. Like, everything is really exaggerated.
I'm hoping that the movie dialog will be much better, though. Please.
icarus, okay thanks for clarifying. I didn't know if that was movie lines or what! 🙂 But thanks for the tips. I've got to hand it to you for finding all this info for us. I'm surprised your not a moderator because of all the stuff you find! 🙂 How do you do it all? =)
Starlily, he, he! Though I wouldn't worry about the diologe from this script ending up being like the *real* script. For one thing, I saw the translation from the German Storybook on Ben Barnes' fan site and according to *that* Rhoop tells them 'don't think of your worst nightmares, they become real.' (it sounded like Rhoop was on board with them, but again it's a storybook, but it sounded like they were on board the DT) Right after Rhoop tells them that they heard a disconcerting sound in the water and Lucy says: 'what did you think of, Ed?' And then the sea-serpent attacks.
Hmm, wonder what this means about the WW, she wasn't mentioned was she? Maybe she's only there for a little bit. And remember what Tilda said? 'I only filmed about 20 min. or so.' Maybe… because of those trailer stills we saw (with Caspian being asleep)… maybe the WW is just some sort of elaborate dream of Edmund's that's just haunting him while on board because the WW was brought up? Or maybe she really is in the climax and they have to face the SeaSerpant and the WW at the same time… Caspian and Lucy were screaming at Ed about *something* Unless it was the Sea Serpent attacking Ed etc. But I doubt it…
we saw some shots of Ed in the trailer(s) where his hair is dry, but then if the witch is antagonizing him there, he'd easily start sweating with what's going on. So he could be facing the witch and that might be what Caspian and Lucy were shouting about. We'll have to see! All in all, I'm super excited about this movie! 🙂
WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THIS EVIL GREEN MIST!
Oh, and congratulations to DiGoRyKiRkE on your new job as news-poster! (And Bookwyrm too 🙂 ) Well done!
I'm finally understanding the story better!
They do leave Narnia to fin d the lost lords, and later on try to destroy the DI
The evil green mist is the DI, they have expanded it's role in the movie to make it a large part of the plot
This looks really, really, really bad. I had a theory that the "unfathomable fate" was a result of the dark island, and it turns out that I was correct.
The mist is most likely green because they are leading up to the rise of the which in the Silver Chair.
That's also a great idea! I can see how that would definitally do it. But I still don't know if they DO have to retrieve a sword from the dark island. Or it the knife is there at all. I hope they leave the knife at the Table of Aslan…but I heard somewhere that it isn't there. SO many questions..not enough answers.
But over all. The thing that keeps throwing me off it the scene of the White Witch materializing over Caspian as he's sleeping on the ship. I just can't understand that!!!!!
NO!!! don't give them ideas!!! Don't jinx it.
ATTENTION SILVER CHAIR PRODUCERS: He/She was joking…don't do it!!!!! lol
Okay, so now we know more or less how the dragon vs. sea serpent battle turns out. Eustace won't defeat the dragon, in fact, he will have to fly away, so I don't think he will be earning his redemption. However, it might end up looking like he was cured to save his life, or so he could place the final sword. I hope that's not the case, but I've stopped hoping too much since the movie storybook.
The plot as depicted here does seem to indicate that they need to sail into the Dark Island to retrieve the last sword – and presumably once the events that it says unfold there occur, Eustace now as a boy will be able to go to Aslan's Table and place the final sword there, defeating the Dark Island.
There haven't yet been any reports to indicate that the Stone Knife has any significant role in the plot, but some people did spot that photos from the most recent trailer clearly show the knife on the table placed amongst the swords, so its obviously involved in some way.
Unfortunately they are probably correct – they didn't just make the Dark Island's mist's green for no reason. We know the plot won't be as LOTGK-centric as the leaked script was, but it's still fairly obvious why they ended up choosing the colour green to represent the Dark Island's mist here… it's not just a coincidence based on a random colour selection on the part of the designers.
neither am I, and the fact that its being called the "eveil green mist" worries me even more 🙁
So most likely. The Sea Serpant is in the Dark Island, and Eustace must help defeet it and then get the sword. He would turn back into a boy and be able to present the sword due to the fact that he played a significant role in getting the sword back….it's pretty amazing what we can get by just discusing a scene.
I always pictured them as having hats. Not sure if this is because Lewis describes them as such, or if the pictures from the book show them that way.
Well, at least they're implying that the SC really will be made…right? :-/
AHHHH!!!!!!! These findings are horrible and scary! That is not how VoDT is meant to be at all! Eustance gets stabbed? and no Pug and slave trade!!! The whole 'not earning grace' seems to have almost disapeared! It seems like the whole story was just made into a weird battle against an ivisible evil and not an adventure story at all! Aslan and his country wasn't even the goal! My opinion of this film (if it be like this scrip and what we've seen so far) keeps going down like a plane in a nose-dive! *shakes head*.
FAIRY???!!!
Way to demean (i think that's a word) the amazing magic of the stars. Which is more enchantine, the daughter of a legendary celestial body or a fairy…
But the scholastic things aren't the story. The one for Horton Hears a Who with Jim Carey didn't follow the movie AT ALL. So hopes can be present.
Like i've said a lot, Adamson would not mess up VOTD like this. MIST??? i just hope it pulls together.
Long Live Mr. Beaver!!!!
(By far the best charecter in the books!!!)
THis sounds horrible!! If it is the main plotline, it is so lame. And little kiddish stop the evil green mist and fairies uhhhhh I am getting upset.
If this is anywhere close to the plot of the movie…we're all doomed. *Sigh* Why can't movie people ever make anything right?
I have to agree with Narniaexpert. I mean why would the give up the WW if the green mist is the perfect set up? It's too easy for them.
Every Narnia person knows that the LOTGK isn't the WW!!!!
Ok, I tried to read it, but I didn't want to ruin the movie for myself.
By the Lion Himself, I CANNOT believe what I am seeing!!!!!
Hopefully this won't make VDT-movie-lovers jump on me, BUT- quite frankly, I hate it. Well, what I really mean to say, is this: ALL of the lines sound incredibly inane, and it COMPLETELY goes against the book in every possible shape and form!!!!!
I could perhaps grow to enjoy this movie apart from the books, (in fact, I probably will) but I simply can't bear to see my beloved VDT demolished and completely wrongly enacted before my very eyes. It's very nauseating.
Okay, now that I re-read this, I realise that probably this will get me jumped on (meaning: get those of you who actually liked it mad at me) but I felt that I must speak out.
In closing, this movie seemed promising at first, but it is turning out to be downright disappointing. Apart from the books, it might gain my respect, but up next to C. S. Lewis's brilliant work? Not a chance.
"To find out what happens next, watch the movie or read the book?" Don't read the book if you want to find out what happens next…watch the movie. :p
Keep in mind, Austra, that the lines are designed for child roleplay and are probably no where near the actual dialogue in the movie.
Overall, looks ok.
The script is so corny
AWEEEESOMMMMMMMMEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
i'm a movie lover and a book lover, and I'm not mad at you! 🙂 See? HUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGS! =D how's that? Better? Oh, though *do* keep in mind it is for a school play 🙂 But then again it probably bears some simbolance to the movie script, so if that's what ya mean, then I get ya! 🙂 Again, didn't make me mad! 🙂 Actually, I think it's the movie lovers who make the book lovers mad…
Can you be a *devoted* fan of the book and *still* love the movie and think it follows the book decently? There, see? it's my turn to get jumped on 🙂
WHOA!that's all I can say is WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since this is written for school plays, I think it would be slightly different from the original-the people in the movie are professional actors.
I know this of subject, but how do you send a spy report? I just found something really cool.
I meant off not of.
Ohh okay. That was my other guess haha. Thanks!
what did you find? Oh, but to send in a spy report, you go to homepage, click contact and it gives you two options, one thing (I forget the name) or spy report. Click spy report! 🙂 Whad'ya find?! 😀
I'm gonna need to sleep on this one. This is awful.
This is so great! I am loving the plot!
Cast of characters: Liliandil- A beautiful fairy????? Hmmm…. Interesting. Probably just trying to bring it down to a kid level…
Okay, if the script is similar to what the movie is, then I think the movie will not be quite as bad as I expected it to be. For one thing, the dark Island seems to be what they are combating, not the White Witch again — so awesome! Secondly, although Eustace's transformation does not seem as powerful as in the book, he doesn't seem to earn his redemption, but it was given to him by Aslan — ultra awesome!
ohhh no it's the green mist kids. It's gonna get you…
I agree, I can't stand those over exaggerated one-liners that no one would use in a real conversation!!
I don't know what everyone else thinks…but personally I think that is one AWFUL makeup job!!! Hopefully it will look better at regular speed and not close up.
Evil green mist? Wow.
