Carrie Underwood Performs Song on Dawn Treader Soundtrack
Country singer Carrie Underwood has co-written and performed a song which will be featured on the end credits of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The single will be released by Fox exclusively on iTunes on November 16.
You can read the official announcement at CarrieUnderwoodOfficial.com.
Props to MundoNarnia for the tip.
OHHHHHHHH, FIRST COMENT!! AND WHAT'S THE SONG'S NAME?
But I'd prefer Rascal Flats, they are so amazing… I'm their fan
I have never listened to any of her songs. I guess I'll start now.
A country music artist and Dawn Treader. Very interesting. Let's hope they confine this end credit song to the actual credits this time. That's where they belong. I still cringe when Regina Spektor infiltrates the ending of Prince Caspian and makes the conclusion even worse with that ridiculous song.
Wow. I guess now we have a combo more bizarre than Avril Lavigne's annoying credits song for Alice in Wonderland. Nothing against Carrie, she seems like a nice person and a talented singer, but her music doesn't even remotely fit with a British fantasy film.
Those of you who have never heard of Carrie Underwood here is a link to her song Jesus Take The Wheel

I think Carrie Underwood is a beautiful singer! I hope the song's a great one. =)
That is a wonderful song.
If she truly believes wht it says I can see her singing for the movie.
Unfortunatly, for so many performers, it is just that. A performance, and just that. I would be intersted to hear anything of her professing, and living a Christian life.
It'll be interesting to see how they manage to fit Carrie's music in with VDT, but she's a very talented singer. If anything, her song will give VDT some much-needed publicity.
What are you like Puddglum? Cheer up or you'll be known as Puddleglummer! Carrie has done a lot of charity work and I'm glad she was bold enough to sing this. Only God can truly know our hearts.
You can download it as a single on itunes from 16th November! Perfect publicity! Hope i can get it in the UK – i'll try!
Oooh, I love Carrie Underwood! A bit surprised that they're getting such a big name but excited. I'm sure this will be one of her more "pop" songs as it has broader appeal.
Awww, I love that song. lol But I agree, it should have stuck to the credits.
I still would prefer to just here music from the score.
I've heard Jesus Take the Wheel from her only, and I love it.
She's not however what I would picture for Narnia Soundtrack, but I am of course gonna give it a chance, I have loved both soundtracks up to now.
I don't think her music is my style (and my dad will probably say, "Turn it off," when the song comes on–he mostly likes classical and choir and stuff), but still, welcome aboard, Carrie! 🙂
PS. November 16 it's available. Ooh. I am not conflicted. I want to hear the song. But I usually prefer to listen to the songs in a soundtrack after I've seen the movie. Otherwise it doesn't quite work for me. Listening to it one time before hand would be fine. but if I bought it, I would have it on playback. what to do. what to do. (I don't have the strength to buy, and then listen to only once.)
Hm. Not a Carrie Underwood fan. Oh well. I suppose it could be worse.
No way. Is it April 1st?
I love Narnia inspired songs, I collect them even, but I don't like country music at all! If Carrie butts her way into the actual film I think I'm going to cry. That being said, I'd like to hear her song and see if it's as good as the other credit songs from the other two movies.
*bawls* NOOOOOOOOO! I was hoping for something *BEAUTIFUL* not country or pop like the last ones. *perks up head* wait, is this for the soundtrack? Oh. Credits. *bawls again* why can't they do something that's a solo voice supported by orchestra?
Maybe I'll be surprised and maybe it'll be good. Good gravy… that's the first negative thing about this movie I've said! *starts laughing* when do we get lyrics for it? I HOPE it's NOTHING like The Call. That was retarded.
Carrie has a great voice, but she just isn't a good fit for Narnia. . . not at all. I'm very disappointed by reading this.
I love Carrie Underwood, but she doesn't really "fit" Narnia. Then again, everyone said Annie Lennox didn't fit for ROTK either, and that turned out lovely (imo). We shall see.
Carrie has a great voice. She's done lots of songs that aren't country (Ever Ever After for credits of Enchanted, for example). So I still have hope. 😛
Give her a chance. I like Jesus Take the Wheel. She might surprise us with a classic tune and it might even give Narnia an academy award, who knows?
HUGE fan of Narnia, my hubby bought me the box set of the books for our first wedding anniversary and I have seen all the movies in theaters and own them on DVD as well as the PS2 games.
I am also a huge fan of Carrie Underwood… I helped vote for her win on American Idol and Have seen her in concert twice. Most recently was earlier this month. She sang Jesus Take the Wheel and when she was done she immediately transitioned into the hymn How Great Thou Art. Carrie is a wonderful Christian and I believe that she will be a fantastic asset for Fox and Narnia!
Here is to a Golden Globe or Academy Award in the future!
Rascal Flatts is awesome, agreed. but I don't think they have the right sound for VDT.
She's thought of as a country artist, but she's not traditional country… she's more part of the country/pop crossover movement. BTW, i think we should mention, Carrie sang the ending song for the movie Enchanted, "Ever Ever After." So, she's done movie soundtrack work before. Question is, will it work for VDT? I think it /could/ work, but I reserve final judgement until I hear it.
Alanis or Imogen would have been better. :\
So that song won't be included with the soundtrack?
Anyway, I was hoping for Enya or Celtic Woman or something like that. I think they would fit Narnia better than pop or country does, but I do like Carrie Underwood's voice so it won't be too bad. I would just have rather had something more ethereal and fantasy-like.
I hope this will give you more confidence. This is an amazing rendition of "How Great Thou Art". If you want to get the goosebump factor up, look up the lyrics as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhvaDJTUmrU
Congrats, Carrie! I think this is the most, overall, positive response given by the fans of Narnia recently, lol.
It depends on her song. I would like something like the song Wunderkind in LWW. I don't think we will get that from Carrie, but it may end up great. After all, VotDT DOES need a different feel to it then LWW, and the songs at the end credits to account to this.
*perks up a little* Really? she MIGHT work. Yeah, Annie Lenox almost wasn't LotR material but the song worked, so maybe it will be like that 😀
I was hoping for Enya too! I was *SO* hoping for Enya! She would SO make the credit songs beautiful. And it would certainly promote the movie. Everyone loves Enya, except my younger brother 🙂 Her Caribbean Blue and Orinoco Flow just reeks with Nanria! Amid the Falling Snow makes me think of stepping through the wardrobe. Evacuee makes me think of the children leaving their home. It just *FEELS* like Narnia.
But maybe this Carrie lady will work. Oh well 🙂 As long as the score is good I can forgive *one* credit song. Who knows, I might like it 🙂
oh, opps! I was writing that to WariorMaiden. Sorry about that 🙂 But VotDT does need a different feel than LWW. For that it was 'discovering' in the lyrics to those songs. This… well, Lucy and Ed can never come back. For them it's an 'end' 🙁 For Eustace it's a begining. On top of that there's this voyage of exploration that went on. She's got her work cut out. How do you convey the despair of Lucy and Ed while showing how Eustace doesn't have to feel that way plus adding a voyage tweak? 🙂
Oh my gosh! She is an awesome singer! I can't wait to hear the song!
Wow y'all are so pessimistic! Though I must admit, I was not thinking happy thoughts when I saw this…I was wishing for Celine Dion. Anyway, concerning her style as a country singer, she is still capable of singing other styles! I have heard her sing a breath taking rendition of How Great Thou Art that sent chills running up and down my spine; and while most of the song was sung in a country style, the 1st verse was lovely, just the kind of thing I imagined for a Narnia movie! I'm actually pretty excited for all the stir this is going to cause. She will be great publicity for VDT!
Ok, first off I want to clarify that I like Carrie Underwoods music and that she is a great artist. However… My opinions are… NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO! Come on fox, didn't you learn anything when you did… Oh wait you havn't done anything this big other then Star wars and Indy. But you had an awesome track to the Star wars, didn't you learn anything from that????!?! Fans like to hear music that fits the movie. Not some country singer.
Maybe bittersweetness?
Cool! I can't wait until November 16th to hear it!!
i heard of her before…..can't image sing whatever song for narnia 3 soundtrack!
Same here!
I liked The Call on Prince Caspian. Though everyone freaked out the first time thinking is was a song for Caspian and Susan.. :). Now 'Dance 'round The Memory Tree' THAT song drives me nuts. I usually skip it…the melody and the voices…..
I love "Jesus Take The Wheel!" She should a great job for VDT! 😀
I am very disappointed. I don't think country fits Narnia very well. I liked songs like "Wunderkind," "Can't Take It In," and "The Call" for the credits. They all have a sort of orchestral, ethereal feel.
Actually, I was hoping that Tenth Avenue North would get to do one of the credit songs. I know they'd come up with something INCREDIBLE!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she'll do awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Please Don't say "Fans" because I Love that she is doing it. so maybe says "i". For me I think she'll do something amazing. The Call and Wunderkind were amazing! So since its most of the some people just with fox getting in there.
And though Carrie underwood is usually country she has done other things like Ever Ever After from enchanted!
AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to hear it!!!!!!!
That's awesome:) depending on the song she sings, I think if could fit perfectly for the movie (and maybe she'll have a music video- which would be awesome cause I mostly only listen to country singers
…so then I'd actually see it.
I agree!!! oh dear my worst nightmare just came true!!! Country and Nanria!!!!!!!!!!!SCREAM!!!!!!
Carrie Underwood? Are you serious? -_- Grrrrrreeeaaatttt……
Wow, my friends are gonna be surprised. Yeah, you never know, the song might be Narnian-ish. I mean Annie Lenox pulled it off so well, that she won an Oscar!
In an interview I heard once, she was asked what her plans for the future were and she replied that she didn't like to plan her life out, she preferred to leave it up to God because if you plan out what your life is going to be like than you might miss the little surprises He has for you.
So I have high hopes for this song!
I so agree with you! I love country music, but for Narnia it just doesn't work!!!!! Narnia is magical and mysterious, don't get me wrong, I love Carrie Underwood, she is amazing, but her powerful voice and country style doesn't mix well with Narnia. She is talented, and everyone talented has their place, but singing for something like Narnia isn't her place!
They need to find someone a bit more formal, innocent, and ethereal. I would sugest some one like A Fine Frenzy's Alison Sudol or maybe Enya….
I am so angry. Michael Apted is ruining the magic of Narnia left and right. He doesn't understand what Narnia is and what it stands for at all. *sigh*
ANDREW ADAMSON WE NEED YOU BACK!!!!!
No offence to Carrie or her fans, but are you people kidding me?!
Pop-Country does NOT belong in Narnia!
This is a BRITISH story, people, not a Midwest, middle-of-the-road, modern American tale! In addition, this is a MYTHIC story. If you're going to feature a modern artist, it should be one that can convey mythic themes, like Lisa Gerrard and Dead Can Dance, or Love Spirals Downwards, or Clannad or any one of the great Celtic singers. In addition, the composer of the song should be someone who has a comprehension of European Art music up to and including the Romantic era.
All that said, if Carrie can lose the typical "Country" twang in her voice, and if the song is written by someone who understands how to capture C.S. Lewis and the mythic world he created, I'm willing to give Carrie a chance. Perhaps she's hiding a level of diversity and profundity underneath all that Top-20 crap.
Frankly, I'm astounded at the studio's brazen attempt to go mainstream. I hope this doesn't reflect on the quality of the film itself. Fantasy, science-fiction and horror are the antithesis of the mainstream, and any prior attempt to meld the two has ended in grievous failure or artistic mediocrity.
I guess that's one example of how people have different musical tastes. I thought A Dance 'Round The Memory Tree was the best of the end credit songs in Prince Caspian.
Agree, agree, AGREE!!!! My mouth dropped open in horror, and I said "CARRIE UNDERWOOD?!?!?!" out loud. I cannot believe this. I was a little miffed about Switchfoot for PC, but this is just TERRIBLE!
You might want to wait until the song comes out before complaining. Brazen? Horror? Terrible? Give me a break.
