Dawn Treader Score Complete

Yesterday, Composer David Arnold posted on his Twitter feed: “Narnia recordiing done.mix tomorrow.now for a celebratory glass of lemon squash.”

The next step is to start mixing, where the mixers will combined all the sound effects, dialogue, and music. They also have to decide the levels, what to use and what to leave out, and which speakers to assign each sound to. For now at least, they will probably be mixing to shots with unfinished visual effects.

Director Michael Apted’s son, Paul, is among those working on the sound. Paul also worked on Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

In 2006, Terry Porter, Dean A. Zupancic, and Tony Johnson received an Academy Award nomination for sound mixing in “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” but the award went to “King Kong.”

I love fiddle music! I can't wait for it to come out. I'm having to start my Narnia soundtrack collection again; they disappeared last year 🙁

  2. SavedByGrace says:

That sounds so cool! I'll have to try that.

  3. narnian resident says:

really?! Howard Shore is going to do The Hobbit?! yes!!!! and of course, who else could ever do that job as good as him 😀

Oh this is great! We only have exactly 3 months to go! How the time did fly, yet it felt like a long journey.

I'm listening to Dave Arnold's "independence day" music right now…I'm so excited! Can't wait to hear what he has for the Dawn Treader.

  11. Reepicheep says:

One of the best things about these movies is their music…and we have a different composer this time.

  12. Xenithar says:

Wow, that's awesome – they better hurry with all the mixing though; the movie's supposed to be out in December.

  13. Queen Elizabeth says:

Considering the preview I'm pretty sure that Peter and Susan will be returning. Also you know how they added some battles in Prince Caspian that weren't in the book? Well, from the looks of things they are adding a big battle in VDT, and they want to bring Peter and Susan back to help win the war. I may be wrong, but all my sources say yes to your question.

  14. musketeer39 says:

Hmm…I wonder what it'll sound like. I hope it compares with Wardrobe's score.

  15. [ForNarniaAndForAslan] says:

Me too!!!! I bet it'll sound a bit Celtic! =D

  16. [ForNarniaAndForAslan] says:

I do that a LOT! It's very inspirational music to write by. =)

  17. Alambil and Tarvis says:

OMG YES!! 😀 I cannot WAIT to hear it. I hope it sounds a bit Celtic-ish in some parts–that'll be perfect to take with me to Ireland in January LOL 😀

And lemon squash? lol I like this guy. :p

  18. Aravis and Hwin says:

I can't wait to hear it!!! Does anyone know when it'll come out?

  19. VDTSailor says:

    Whats the movie companion thing?

  20. Cynical Narnia Fanboy says:

it's a big book that has just alot of pictures and interviews with casst and crew, stories, and just everything you'll ever need to know about the production

  21. Aravis and Hwin says:

Me three :)! That would be great!!!

  22. edmundlover14 says:

    YAY!

  23. edmundlover14 says:

    I KNOW

  24. Frederic says:

I sincerely hope your wrong. That idea sounds utterly ghastly.

  25. Narniadreamer says:

Oh, I cannot wait to hear the music for this movie. I wonder if it will be much different from the first two considering that they are using a different composer. I hope he does a good job. Cannot wait for the movie!

  26. Queen Elizabeth says:

I know. When I read that I was like, Why are they coming back?! It's not in the book, It just ruins the story line.

  27. checkers says:

Awesome!!!! Any guesses as to when the soundtrack will come out? (I'm trying to put my Christmas list together. :P)

  28. narnian at heart says:

this is soooo exciting! I cant wait till it comes out. I LOVEEE the music to Narnia!….FOR NARNIA!!!

  29. Awel Prince says:

I do this all the time! It helps so much! Even listening to songs with lyrics can help with describing scenes/scenery or open a whole new dynamic to your book. Highly, highly recommend music while typing or working on anything—even graphic design. 😉

  30. Ranger says:

I'm kinda glad that someone else took over the score. The music was starting to get repetitive.

  31. Composer David Arnold, 5 hours ago on Twitter: "Mixing Narnia……..sounding lush. Geoff foster doing great work." http://twitter.com/DavidGArnold/status/24491898401

  32. Queen Elizabeth says:

The music is so claming and has a castle age feel to it. I hope the music is as good as it was in Prince Caspian.

  33. GlimGlum says:

Hi F.H. It is not infrequent that the same pair of directors and composers collaborate together. A trivia entry for David Arnold on IMDB states: "Frequent collaborator with directors Roland Emmerich and John Singleton."

I think you will find him more than capable of composing a good movie score for VDT. His second movie score, for Stargate, was one of the best things about that movie and one of my favorite movie scores ever. 🙂

  34. Reepicheep says:

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will they put any samples of the score? And theats cool that Michael Apted's son will be doing the score too! CAN'T WAIT!

  35. high queene shelly belly says:

it would be really cool f we could get an interview with him. id love to know if he watches the movie first, then thinks up music to it, or if he thought it all up 2 years ago, then fit it in, and what he was thinknig as he wrote it. it would be TOTALLY COOLif we could get a running commentary here we could listen to as our cd plays!!

  36. Aslie says:

Arvis, it usually comes out a week before the movie comes out. So before the nineth of December it will be out.

  37. Aslan's Girl says:

YAY!!!!!!!! Lol, slow reaction time… like, 8 days later or something… but, OH MY GOODNESS!! I'm SO excited! I love the first two soundtracks, and I cannot WAIT for that fiddle in this one! 🙂 I can't believe we're less than 3 months away!! *Narnia flail*

  38. Dufflepoodle says:

    Me too!!!
Haha, at least we know the movie should have sound quality equal to Alice and X-Men. LOL

  39. Duffleglum says:

Woah!! you're so right!! 3 months will fly like THAT 😀

  40. Dragon Rider says:

What Reepicheep said was right. The things that make these movies are their music! withought the composers, Narnia would be a really wierd movie!!!!!!!!!!!1 Music Makes it all! keep it up Narnians!
    -Dragon Rider

  41. Dragon Rider says:

You are so right!!!!!!! three months can fly like a Dragon! haha lol

  42. Dragon Rider says:

    Your so right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music is one of the most important things in a movie!!
The first movies had AWESOME music! Lets hope this score will be good.
