VDT Blog – “Five Questions with Will Poulter”
How did you come to get the role of Eustace? What was the audition process like for you?
I was really lucky because I got to go to the very first audition in London. But it was postponed due to the writersβ strike in America. So, six months later, they contacted me and asked if I would like to audition again. I was lucky that I hadnβt really grown much; otherwise it could have been difficult [to be considered for the part]. So, I was really lucky to get onto the next round of casting, and then I finally got to meet Michael [Apted] and audition with Georgie and Skandar. I was a complete newbie, and hadnβt really done much film work, so I was very nervous in the audition. Then, Michael rang me up and told me I got the part, which was really great. I should also say that itβs been over two years since I first auditioned for the role. I had already done Son of Rambow at that point.
You can read the whole interview on the Facebook page here.
He is too old and too short.
I am excited to see him in this next movie… I just watched Son of Rambow, and it was very good!
I caan not wait to see him as eustace
I am sure Will will be amazing as Eustace. But the interview spelled Ben's last name wrong- "Barners". *giggles, then sighs*
ahw, hes soo cutee! i can NOT wait to see voyage of the dawn treader!
Aside from being a bit of a mean comment to start the page off with, i don't get how your logic works. If he is too old then surely being shorter is a good thing?
He's got the sort of attitude that endears a person to the public– hopefully Narnia will help popularize him.
That was a cute interview! π Bravo Will Poulter!!!
I'm actually really anxious to see his portrayal. Ron of Rambow was ok, but he did a great job so I know he can do a wonderful Eustace
Whoa. He sounds good for the part.
Will Poulter absolutely has to be my favorite casting choice yet. Based upon looks, that is. Hopefully he'll pull through on his actually performance as well; he seems to understand the character really well.
Very pleasant, modest young man. π Totally rocked in his part in Son of Rambo.
i cant believe he's 16, he looks too young. even georgie looks much older than him, and she's a year younger. well, doesnt matter. he looks so perfect for Eustace π
he's not too old. heck, William Moseley was 20 and portrayed a boy suppose to be around 14. all the actors are at least 5 years older than their characters, but the movies look so great it doesnt mess anything up at all.
YYYYYEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I am so happy we finaly heard form him. I have been waiting to hear from him this whole time. I think he will make a great Eustace. Only four more months!!!!! Keep the story of Aslan alive!!!
Indeed; I've been dying to see/hear more from 'Eustace'. I can't wait to see him in theaters. He sounds so great. And he's an old-time Narnia fan! Yay!
I think he will be a fantastic Eustace
I'm going to audition for Jill Pole. It's good to hear that he got in so quickly, because if it's during the school year I'm going to have to go back to school and miss my chance. Hopefully I can talk my teachers and principal into letting me go…….. Doubtful, but there is still a ray of hope. Its also good to hear that they picked him, because he had only been in one movie before, and he said that he had a small role. That hopefully will work for me, who has never been a movie before! Can't wait to see the movie!
I think he looks perfect for the role of eustace! Yay! Im sooooo happy that we are hearing more from the actors!
Keep sailing DT!
Cant wait to see him as Eustace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I agree just because is older that their character doesnt mean that it wont be good
i think he is brilliant. infact, i have a friend who looks just like him, exept he is alot younger then will.
i'm not lying, its true!
When I first heard about Will Poulter being cast as Eustace I was not happy because he is so much older than his character. Too many teenagers are being cast in kid roles and Poulter is an example of this. But I am happy to say I have changed my mind (about this particular casting anyway). What little we have seen of Poulter's performance is superb and exactly the way Eustace should be. And I am glad that Poulter understands his character so well. In this interview and others he has described Eustace perfectly. I think Eustace is going to be one of the best parts of the movie.
That's not a very nice thing to say, decarus. How do you think Will Poulter will feel if he happens on your comment? You're entitled to your opinion, but you could be a little more tactful. And I personally think that Will is going to do a great job. He's a cool guy. Even if he is older than the character, that has little to do with his acting. And I can't see how he is too short…
Okay, I'm sorry to be lecturing. (I know I'm not your mother π )
Will Poulter does a great job of describing Eustace! And he sounds like such a nice guy (Will, not at-first-bratty Eustace). I'm just dying to see more footage of Eustace! We've only seen like two teeny tiny clips of him, which is very unsatisfying. Can't wait to see how his transformation (both physical and mental) turns out! And I agree, daughter of the King, that Eustace might just be one of the best parts of the movie (though of course we'll have to wait to find out).
I really enjoyed him in Son of Rambow. He'll do good as Eustace!
Hehe, that made me laugh too π
I think he's a great choice. I hate it when they choose actors who have already been in a gazillion other films. I like to see new faces play main roles. Besides, he did a great job in Son of Rambow. He'll be great in The Silver Chair.
Yeah, seriously! Just because he's that old, doesn't mean that he's not going to look young or portray an immature character. When I was in 7th grade, I had a classmate who was a newcomer to our school, and before I was introduced to her, I thought she was in 4th grade! She was 13, yet she was short and many students, and teachers mistook her for 10 or 9. When she said she was 13, they all thought she was lying. Will Poulter looks way younger than 16, and Georgie definitely looks older than him. Well, I'm still looking forward to seeing him in theaters, and I think he is a perfect choice for Eustace.
I noticed that too! π I also noticed found another typo: instead of "talent" the person put "talen"! BTW, I used to have a classmate with the last name "Barnes". π
Isn't the character supposed to be short?
Movies always want people who are older and look younger. I think is is because they want the most expirence. My sister would go out for roles for commercials and tv shows when she was like 12 yr old, and the people wanted her to play an 8 yr old.
He seems really nice.
he's sure to do well! The dragon scene was my favorite part of the book!!
I watched THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWNTREADER – Trailer Analysis Part2/3; Too much whining. The statement was made "Don't mention C.S.Lewis' name. He has little connection with the movie".. In other words this critic said the film is not faithful to the book. These statements do not encourage me to see this film.
I think Will is going to make a perfect Eustace, aside from his hight and hair color.
wow he does not look 16 he looks like 11 or somthing, personally, from what ive seen of him, he is not the right person to do the job.
He looks like Eustace to me. π π π
I can't wait til this film comes out!! π
The problem is that because he is too old he probably isn't going to get much taller. If he was only going to be in one film then the fact that he is too short wouldn't matter, but his character is supposed to continue on and he probably is always going to be too short. They are going to have to find a very short Jill.
It bothers me.
Well that was extremely rude. If the worst things that Will hears about himself in his life is that someone thinks he is too old and too short for a part then he has done okay.
You guys are making my point for me. Will Poulter is 17 years old. His character is supposed to be younger or around the same age as Lucy. Georgie is 15 years old. When they were filming they were probably a year younger so 14 and 16.
The thing is that Will Poulter is short. Really short it seams. I don't think he fits in with the group. The thing is that he is 17 years old and so he probably isn't getting much taller. This is it. He might get an inch or two, but i doubt he is going to ever fit in with the group.
It is like Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter is also too short. The Harry Potter people at least did not know at the point they hired Daniel that he was going to be too short. The Narnia people know that Will is too short and they hired him anyways.
He is too short and too old. Does that mean he is going to be a terrible Eustace? No. It bothers me though and it annoys me that because the film was delayed and he didn't grow which means they knew and we now have a Eustace who is too short.
They are going to have to find a Jill that is short now also.
I do like that Will Poulter is an unknown like the other kids.
I agree! With the possible exception of Georgie Henley or William Moseley, I think that Will Poulter is their best casting choice yet!
Good Luck! π
As to your last remark, I don't see why on earth Jill has to be shorter than he. If you think about it, there is no substantial reason at all. I mean, my best friend who is a guy shorter than I! π ;-P. And I think he looks just great. And not too old, either. Though that was an interesting comment there.
Ditto, ditto there!!! Yes, I think he is a great choice.
I really wish I could too! Though I don't have much hope at all. And I can say without competition that I wish you good luck! π I'll bet there are about three million fangirls that want to get the part too!
Well said, and I DEFINITELY agree!!!
Good work, well-said, and I most emphatically agree!
Hopefully this movie will make him super famous!
