Three Brand New Video Clips From The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Aslan’s Country has posted the three clips from the Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour package. The first clip shows Eustace being very obnoxious with the Pevensies in Lucy’s bedroom. The second clip shows Eustace discovering the dragon cave and gives some hints about story change. The third clip shows Edmund, Lucy, Caspian, Eustace, and Reepicheep rowing across the Sea of Lillies. Eustace is talking about his undragonning.

There’s a lot of dialogue with Eustace in all three clips. This is by far the best footage we’ve seen from the film.

UPDATE: Fox has removed these videos from YouTube and Vimeo. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

Yeah, notice how the videos say "created especially for Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour". I'm also 100% sure that in the movie the scenes will be much less rushed, and with different music.

  2. allalea says:

They're really good, but I hope they're the edited version.

  3. Aslan's Meadow says:

    Yes! I see it too.

  4. Anna's Sister says:

Wow, this is awesome!!!!!!! I'm so excited I can barely think what to write!

  5. NarniaCrazy says:

oh my goodness this is so exciting!! we FINALLY get to hear more of Caspian's voice… and I love it! I also love Ed in the 2nd clip. The last trailer concerned me a bit… but now I am absolutely THRILLED!!

  6. Lady Em says:

You are so right! I have no clue where my mind went. I mean… I've only read the book like a dozen times and listened to it on tape/CD multiple times a year since I was eight. =P

  7. Lady Em says:

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. Especially since the music is the same as in the trailer. It still has that 'preview' feel to it or whatever you want to call it. =D

  8. eustacegirl says:

aw gail's voice is so cute and edmund sounds like peter from lww feeling guilty for eustace situation, tho he looked more like troy bolton from HSM in the face. I love redeeemed eustace ireally hope SC is made

  9. Lucy says:

Oh, my gosh, no way! I'll have to check that out! How did i miss that?

  10. Lucy says:

yeah, not to sound rude, dear, but I think it IS just you who thinks that, probably. I personally thought the acting was great; I liked Skandar's performance, especially. The way he flipped out on eustace when he repeats, "Hideous burden" looked almost exactly like Peter's expression in LWW when he says, "You just have to make everything worse don't you?"

And Georgie was adorable as usual even though she's older here. So far, I love Will Poulter as Eustace, i have to say, he is way better than the BBC one.

  11. Lucy says:

Really? That's cool. Doesn't make sense, though, seeing as in the extended version of LWW, she gives it to Edmund who in turn snottily gives it away to some kid they don't know sitting across from them on the train. I haven't the foggiest idea how she would have gotten it back, LOL. Think she snatched it from the kid? Just kidding.

  12. Knight of the Lion says:

Allthough this footage was very encouraging it makes me ask more questions then it does answer them. But for the most part I think there geting it right. Good to see lots of Eustace and Caspian!

  13. PrinceRilian says:

Wow! Three new clips! I'll have to blog about these.

Mostly good, though there's some definite restructuring to what's going on.

  14. RumbleBuffinTheStrong says:

Yeah, I look forward to hearing your analysis. Thanks!

  15. Fire vein says:

    Totally Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Evangeline says:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀
OH MY GOD! THAT WAS SSOOOOOOO AWESOME! I LOVE EDMUND! <3
    AND EUSTACE IS PERFECT! 😀

  17. I noticed that too. It is most possibly & certainly edited. And I think that the scenes are probably were not finished (the cgi is a little unperfected), since they were most likely published before the trailers, maybe. Some of the shots also might be deleted; in one of the PC trailers there was a deleted shot. Anyways, I can finaly watch Caspian with ease, since he looks sooo much better than in PC, & that he has no Mediterranean accent. Skandar is ok, he was good in clip #1. Eustace & Lucy were ok. (The acting needs more perfection.) Hopefully the movie will be well edited, directed & flowing & the acting will be better; & they will not stray too far from the book. Oh & better CGI.

  18. narnian resident says:

like your username 🙂 perhaps i can guess you've possibly read The Silmarillion? the story of Beren and Luthien is one of my favorites

  19. I love Drinian's accent too! It actually sounds Telmarine/Mediterranean! That's weird. I thought they said the "Telmarines" were all going to have British accents now. Unless they happen to have Drinian be a Lone Islander, & some Lone Islanders have Mediterranean accents. *is slightly
    confused/curious but excited anyways.

  20. narnian resident says:

you know, im beginning to notice how Eustace's voice changes from the scenes when he's still a mean boy and the scene in the lily lake, after he changed from a dragon. in the first 2 clips, his voice is very harsh and edgy, very mean and annoying, but in the third clip, his voice is gentle and sweet. i absolutely love that! i wonder if they did it on purpose, or its just Will's great acting, or it just somehow came out like that. either way, its such a nice touch to his character 🙂

  21. Ugly Pig says:

They're definitely edited down versions of the scenes, and the music is clearly not the actual score music that will be in the final film. But this looks encouraging.

  22. Shastafan says:

Yeah, Edmund's rhyme is hilarious! I remember reading that scene in the book, and I love that although they didn't use the "narnia and balmier" rhyme that Eustace originally used, I'm glad they still have him rhyming in the movie, especially since Edmund rhymes back! 😀

  23. Shastafan says:

I highly doubt. To me, it seems that Eustace is calling them orphans because are off somewhere else, and as for Lucy calling, "we're home!" I imagine she wasn't really stating it was there home. After all, I've called places home even if it isn't true.

  24. Maybe they think having Aunt Alberta and Uncle Harold in there would be too reminiscent of Harry Potter. 😛

  25. Casue says:

Why Is Caspian going To Aslan's kingdon? Who's the little girl on the ship? Is that a pic of Susan and Peter on Lucy's nightstand at 30 sec? Why are they all so old? Why doesn't Caspian have a whole clip to himself? Why isn't anyone eating PUDDING? MUFFINS? OH THE HORROR!!

    Rant done. Love the clips.

  26. Pepper Darcy says:

yep! And when Eustace was talking about being 'undragoned' hurting it looked like that was a voice over too, because you never saw his lips moving for that, but then it seems to 'jump' a bit to 'I think I was a better dragon than a boy' etc. So… maybe the voice over is from when Edmund first finds him and they just cut/edited it to this preview for us 😀

  27. QueenLucy12 says:

    YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. sammy says:

omg omg omg!!! more excited then ever 2 c the movie now, the 3 clips are awesome, from the clips, i think it's gunna be the best narnia film so far!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  29. Still deciding whether or not I want to risk the spoilers in the 2nd and 3rd videos.

I'm very pleased with Will's portrayal of Eustace in the first vid, though. He's very much the hateable bully, like Lewis intended, but there's something about him that makes you know that he really, truly *wants* to be liked, possibly even jealous of Edmund and Lucy's niceness, which I think is also something Lewis intended.

I was appalled at the editing, however. The dialogue/blocking didn't seem to flow very well at ALL. I saw other comments here, though, noting the same thing, and it's probably not the full scene. I hope not. 🙂

All in all, I'm getting excited. Best portrayal the characters in ANY of the films. Best film ever?? I may not be disappointed…

  30. marco_ccs says:

WOW just WOW. That new kid is good.

  31. Choe says:

My heart is beating so fast right now. Hurry up December! I can't wait much longer.

  32. NarniaFreak says:

This can't be the final cut. The transitions are all messed up. Especially in the last clip. Right after Caspian stops talking it goes to the next clip and it's really scratchy and doesn't look very good. Also, the colors look off.

  33. Chainmaillenarnian says:

Why, why, why, can't they just stick with the book for once? You know, C.S. Lewis _did_ write what he wrote for a _reason_! At least we still have the BBC versions.

  34. MurtaghLuv says:

EUSTACE IS AMAZING!!!! absolutely perfect!! love it! can't wait until december

  35. Twinimage says:

    Holy cow!!!!
    Very cool stuff.
Nothing negative to say here except I didn't care for the editing of a couple of the clips. Felt very choppy, but I understand that was probably because it's for an advertisement and most likely not exactly how it will look in the movie. Also the background music is from the trailer. I wonder if that is part of the film score? Then again, the score may not be completely written and recorded yet. Again, I'm just very thankful to see these clips and as other have said, it's encouraging and it looks like they're going in the right direction. 🙂 Yay! Also we see a brief appearance of Gail… Hmmmm, interesting. Not sure how big of a part she'll play in this film.

  36. Eustace says:

Did they make Lucy and Edmund orphans now? I got my Eustace talks to Edmund scene! But it's disapointing that Edmund doesn't mention he was a traitor.

  37. Narnian Kitty says:

Actually some other people have been saying that too, although I don't agree with it. I'll admit it will take me a while to get used to the new Eustace. I thought David Thwaites in the BBC version was so VERY good, the perfect Eustace as far as I'm concerned.

  38. Narnian Kitty says:

This makes me nervous…I don't trust the producers after Prince Caspian's loose adaptation. I hope they don't kill off their parents. Also, I hope they didn't screw up the scenes in Dragon Island. Wasn't the arm ring in the dragon's lair?

  39. Samuel the Magnificent says:

What are you so upset about? The only thing they changed was instead of the gold being in a cave it was in a canyon and Caspian was in the boat. In my opinion both of these are better than the way C.S. Lewis did it.

  40. Samuel the Magnificent says:

I agree. I was not impressed by the acting at all. Eustace's acting was horrible in the first clip. Although it did sound like they were voice overs recorded for the sake of the clips.

  41. Lucy says:

ugh, are you kidding? I HATED the BBC ones! Except for the silver chair, that one wasn't bad.

  42. Lucy says:

    Dang, these are so adictive!

  43. caspianfan says:

hey did any body notice what Eustace said there once where two ORPHANS WHO WASTED THERE TIME.BELIEVING in NARNIA NURSERY RIMES

  44. caspianfan says:

ORPHANS! OH NO. WATCH it again and see for your self if you do not BELIEVE ME

  45. nathan says:

I agree that they need to stick to the books. Everything that C.S.Lewis did was intentional, and they're messing it up. All their doing is causing themselves to lose money. If they would make it the way Lewis wrote it, then they would make more money than Lord of the Rings.

  46. Reepicheep, Knight of Narnia says:

These aren't the final cuts, I'm sure. Being "created especially for Fun-For-The-Whole-Family Hour", they want to instill a moral into about one minute of the movie. A good way to do that is a voice-over. In the last clip, they don't actually show Eustace's face until he comes to the "Being a dragon wasn't all bad" bit. They also don't show Edmund's face for his line before that. Very seldom does that actually happen in a movie, so, based off of that, and off of the fact that it is Edmund who poses the question, I think we can be hopeful that the undragonning scene may be very like the book. I really hope so, because Eustace talking to Edmund is one of my favorite parts of the entire series!

  47. Pogginfan says:

Whoa, three clips! Three clips! This will satisfy me for a whole week!
Really love the sets and Eustace, but slightly worried about Gael and the obvious reconstruction of the story. The colors are so pretty. 😀

  48. Twinimage says:

I just rewatched the videos, noticed the part where Eustace calls the two Pevensies "orphans"!
Yikes! Though, does Eustace really mean "orphans"? Or is he just teasing them because they've been "abandoned" by their parents to go to America. We'll see. That may explain Peter and Susan's appearance in the teaser trailer. Maybe something to do with Aslan's Country. You never know, it may actually go with the theme of the book. Giving more characters more reasons to go to Aslan's Country. It may also have to do with the "lost souls" part of the story.

  49. NarniaWarrior says:

    outstanding !!! 111 days

  50. Liberty Hoffman says:

    YAY!

  51. Dufflepoodle says:

exactly! just like LWW – fast action and extra parts yet keeps to the plot pretty well

  52. Marjorie says:

The picture of Susan and Peter in the framework set by the bedside, could be this:

    http://www.williamgallery.org/displayimage.php?album=86&pos=4 ?

From a distance it looks like i strongly! No?
But when I saw the frame, it made me think of this photo.
I was searched and found. So you see, o

  53. Kirstine says:

Lovely! It's so tantalizing to see actual clips from the movie! 🙂

  54. Lady Polly says:

    THAT WAS AWESOME!!!
WILL POULTER DID SUCH A GOOD JOB PLAYING EUSTACE!!!

  55. Embrace says:

Eustace is Genius! Power Of Will for such a great portrayal!

  56. Not Of This World says:

    Nice footage!

  57. evenstar101 says:

OMG this is AMAZING!!!! :)))) This may satisfy me for a little while longer….

  58. youthere! says:

Eustace begins his rhyme by saying "There once were two orphans…" Am I missing something? Are Lucy and Edmund orphans?

  59. Reepicheep, Knight of Narnia says:

"Why bless me, if I haven't left out the whole point!"
"That you did, Chief, that you did. Nobody could have left it out cleaner and better. Keep it up, Chief, keep it up!"
What I meant to say is that I think Eustace's talking about being undragonned is a voiceover and will actually appear in a different scene than the Silver Sea. Sorry about that, I always get so wrapped in what I'm writing that I say everything except the most important thing!

  60. Adis says:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!!!! I´m out of words!!!! Can´t wait to enjoy the whole movie!!!!
