Simon Pegg Replaces Bill Nighy as the Voice of Reepicheep
NarniaWeb has learned from a production source that Bill Nighy has been dropped from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and has been replaced by British actor Simon Pegg. Best known for his role as Scotty in the 2009 Star Trek film, Pegg has also appeared in Band of Brothers, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.
This is not the first time that a major character in the Narnia film franchise has been recast. Fans will remember that Brian Cox was originally set to voice Aslan, but in July 2005 he was replaced by Liam Neeson.
Here’s a brief clip of Simon Pegg speaking with TIME magazine:
So what, are they going to re-record everything? *rolls eyes* Because there were some Reep lines in the trailer… (Just shows how different the trailer will be from the film.)
Eh…what the heck?! Oh well, the Aslan replacement turned out fine, so hopefully this will too.
What is going on! Oh, I liked Nighy – he has such an amazing voice. Pegg – well, I like him, but as Reepicheep? I can't decide, I haven't had a problem with any of these actors, but I have an issue with this uncertainty!! So, who was it in the trailers then?
Good. This guy is much better than Nighy. Maybe they recognized that.
Interesting…I'm curious as to why they changed actors once again.
He sounded like Eddie Izzard in the trailer. I'm not to worried.
Here we go again. How many times are they going to replace this poor character.
Very strange…not sure what to make of it. I wonder if that was his voice in the trailer.
I like Bill Nighy better, as an actor, but right now I have no opinion as to who would be a better voice for Reepicheep…I'm just going to wait and see. ^_^
WOW!!! so then the chief dufflepud or eustace whoever said it was right! it DOES keep getting wierder and wierder!!!
can they just make up their minds!!!
I think it was the Chief Dufflebud that said the.
at least the role keeps being replaced by other great actors, and not sucky ones. π
He had some rather dramatic moments in Spaced, as well, even though most of that show was comedy.
[And in regards to something someone said about his accent in Star Trek being inaccurate for where he was supposed to be from — that's several centuries in the future; accents will definitely have changed by then]
actually i think that was dufflepud who said that.
Its not the late really cause I mean we have only seen the trailer so who knows how much of the cgi characters have been done.
I wonder if they just used eddie izzard's voice in the trailer because all he says is your majesties, which he also said in pc, cause it sounded so much like eddie
Ahhh… That explains things. π That Reepicheep's line in the trailer "Your Majesties", I thought "Hold on, that's not Bill Nighy! Have they used Eddie Izzard's voice from the first film or what?" I think it's a good thing, because Simon Pegg's voice is a lot closer to Eddie Izzard's than Bill Nighy's is. And Pegg is a great actor, too, so I'm quite happy with the choice. π
That was Simon Pegg's voice in the trailer, not Bill Nighy's. I'd say Nighy was replaced some time ago, it was only publicised now. π
thats what i was thinking, i was hoping it wasnt him because it sounded a lot like him…but there was another line in the trailer that reep said when he was climbing the mast. that wasnt in pc. so idk what is up
I think it's Simon Pegg. π
If they change his voice again I'm going to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HA HA! π I totally agree. What is going on? It looks like Reepicheep's voice is hard to find! Poooooor Reepicheep. . .
No, no, that was Eustace. Besides, why would a Dufflepud say that? He LIVES in Narnia!
MAN!!!! I wish Bill Nighy will do iiiiiiiit! That just SUCKS. . .
No wonder Reepicheep in the trailer didn't sound at all like Bill Nighy. By the way, I found a new name for me, who was Haggith Tarkheena. It is now Narnian Meerkat. Like it?
(finishing comet) π I just love Meerkats. I actually made up a Meerkat Knight in Narnia who first appears in Prince Caspian. His name is Meerephy, and he is a good natured, kind meerkat. π He also has 3 brothers who are also knights named, Leo, Ian and Eagle-eye.
Oh, and they are not 12 inches high like normal meerkats. I made up that the Talking Meerkats are 30 inches tall.
Meerephy is good friends with Reepicheep, who trained him to be a good sword fighter. π
Yeah I do agree that Simon's voie is really close to Eddie's, but still. I would really like Bill to do it. He would make Reep sound more couragess and tough. And, since Aslan taught him that lesson of humilty, he would sound wiser I guess. Oh, well. A voice is a voice.
That's the spirit Mr. Anderson. π
Hey, is your picture a drawing of a green version of Saphira from that movie Eragon? I like that movie! π
I don't know who Simon Pegg is. . .:P
I don't know what they think they are doing! I LIKED EDDIE IZZARD! HARUMPH! Poor reep, they can't find the right voice for him! Why do they keep on changing?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, what do you mean by ASLAN replacement? (worried look)
Interesting! Never heard of a Narnian meerkat. now I have.
Well, I liked Simon Pegg as Scotty, so I for one approve, if only because so much more can go wrong in making a film from a beloved book. Come to think of it, Prince Caspian probably suffered from too many people not being replaced after LWW…seriously, I approved of Bill Nighy but this is not going to hurt.
Im really not liking this. Eddie should do it
do you know this for a fact?
The filmmakers should put them in the movies π
Have you ever seen Meerkat Manor?
You think Gibson was bad?
Try imagining The Governor of California trying to wrap a Norse accent around his native Austrian. If you can't, watch about five minutes of "Conan the Barbarian".
From what I hear they had to cut an entire scene because instead of saying "plundering" it came out "blundering".
Oh great. More cotten wadding for my ears.
Wow. That's an interesting change but Simon Pegg is very good. He's also playing one of Detective Thompson in next year's Tintin movie.

REPLY
Sorry! Didn't mean to freak anyone out! I meant when Liam Neeson replaced Brian Cox for the role of Aslan in 2005.
um, i'm confused.. can some1 tell me why? I thought they already finished filming and all that kind of stuff long ago! and the trailer?? do they switch it?! ahh! ………..hm, thats interesting. cool.
coolness. we can use u small type in the battle. π
I don't care who voices Reepicheep. I care, very much, that they stuck in the White Witch, for no good reason, AGAIN.
Okay…interesting π
What do you mean AGAIN? She should have been in "Prins Caspian!
This is indeed weird! But quite good in a way since Simon Pegg might do Eddie Izzards voice even better than Bill Nighy! HeΒ΄s almost as funny as Eddie Izzard as well!
Bill Nighy voice on the trailer was perfect. It was Lucy who I could not understand. You wait two years for a trailer and the second line you hear is poorly delivered. Everytime I watch the trailer it spoils the whole thing for me. Let the actor use her own voice instead of the one they are using in the trailer. Not using Nighy who really did match up to Eddie Izzard's voice is unbelievable. Simon Pegg performance ruined Star Trek and he is going to ruin this one as well.
wolfloversk: No, I don't know it for a fact, but it's a common practice in filmmaking industry that the producers don't always reveal casting (and other) decisions immediately to the public. It makes sense, and would also explains the fact that Reep's voice in the trailer sounds an awful lot like Simon Pegg. π
aslan1980, that was definitely NOT Bill Nighy's voice in the trailer. And I don't know what you mean by poorly delivered lines in the trailer – I could understand them all perfectly, and I'm not even a native English speaker! I suggest you clean your ears… π
Wow they better hurry up and get all the voice overs done for Reepicheep; the movie's coming out this year!
Sorry guys but that was NOT Eustace that said that.
Simon Pegg is really funny and was one of the BEST things about an otherwise only okay movie like Star Trek.
Yeah, I was wondering if that was Nighy's voice in the trailer…it didn't sound right. But anyway, I don't think this is much cause for worry–since they're in post-production stage already, they probably replaced Nighy with Pegg a long time ago but never actually officially announced it. I mean, why would you have someone coming in to voice the character for a year, and then randomly switch him 6 months before the release date?
Anyway, I liked how Reep sounded in the trailer. It was close enough to Eddie's voice, but just rougher and "older," which is what they were going for, since Reep is obviously older (and mice do age faster than people). I think it fit perfectly. I know Lewis always described Reep as having a "shrill" and "piping" voice, but I could never quite hear that in my head. Plus, for movie purposes, they don't want to make Reep look totally ridiculous by having him have a voice that is way too high-pitched.
"Keep it up, Cheif, keep it up!" π
I didn't think the Reep in the trailer sounded like Nighy
I think Pegg sounds more like Izzard then Nighy does. I'm happy with the change
A little harsh isn't it? Did Pegg's 15 minutes of screentime as Scotty really ruin the whole Star Trek movie for you?
That obviously wasn't Nighy in the trailer. I think Pegg will do fine.
King ReCastian And The Voice Of The Dawn Trailer…
I'm just as confused as anyone, but PLEASE don't blow things out of proportion at this stage. As long as Reepicheep is voiced well, does it really make a ton of difference who does it?
Well, it is pretty confusing why they're just replcing Reepicheep's voice, but… ah, well, it's a change I don't mind provided there aren't any other leading-to-major changes tagging behind.
