Ramandu’s Daughter Given a Name – Lilliandil

We were contacted by someone within the production who shared a few tidbits of information with us regarding the character of Ramandu’s Daughter.

First, the lovely actress who was the stand-in for the character of Ramandu’s Daughter is Stefania Duncan; 21 year old model and actress from Queensland Australia. Her profile can be seen on StarNow.com here.

Second, the character has been given a name for this movie: Lilliandil. Tirian can confirm this name from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader footage he saw a few months ago. He also mentioned that Douglas Gresham was the one who created this name. Very pretty!

Exactly what I was wondering. At first I thought LILLy-an-dil, but that sounds like lilly and dill, so I hope that's not right… πŸ˜‰

I like Lilly-AN-dil… But I guess we'll have to wait and see, unless someone knows…

  2. Duffleglum says:

    Awesome name, Doug Greshem!

bad pose in my mind, though!

  3. Eliseo says:

    nice name.. it sounds epic.

  4. Starlily says:

I pronounce it Lilly-AN-dil, but I could be wrong, and I'd really like to hear Douglas Gresham say it. And I'd really like to hear Caspian say it in a lilting voice with love in his eyes…la-la-la… πŸ˜‰ L is such a lovely letter, isn't it?

  5. always narnian β€’ loyal C.S. Lewis fan says:

Hmmm one of my friends made up a better name than that =D

  6. nathan says:

I never thought about the fact that C.S. Lewis never gave her a name. I guess I just figured her name was Ramandu's daughter.

  7. decarus says:

Why does it matter if Doug Gresham came up with the name or not. Caspian and Susan kissed in the last film and he allowed it. If that can happen then i don't think much of his opinion on things.

  8. true-narnian_queen says:

that is a very pretty name!!! i am glad douglass gresham picted it! why does she need a stand-in???????

  9. the name is awesome! It fits the character nicely and seems almost supernatural! I have it two thumbs up!

  10. Eden says:

    Quite! XD

  11. I thought they were going to name her, but I was kinda hoping they wouldn't. Oh, well. At least "Lilliandil" sounds nice and starry. πŸ™‚

  12. Starlily says:

May we ask what it was?

  13. twinimage says:

Stand ins are for the shots of character where you don't see their faces and such. Usually those are for long days of shooting shots like that so the real actor doesn't have to do that.

But don't mistake it for a stunt double. That's very different. Ramandu's daugh… I mean, Liliandil, πŸ™‚ most likely won't be part of any action scenes.

  14. Bookwyrm says:

If we're saying it, it's a sure bet the critics will too.

  15. Bookwyrm says:

    What's that supposed to mean?

  16. valerie says:

anyone else notice that it's the "star" ending to Tarva and Alambil (AlambIL) from Prince Caspian? She's a star, too…and the Lillian-Rilian thing can't be a complete fluke.

(And yes, it fits in the Tolkein-style writing… but they influenced each other — it's not that surprising!)

  17. Silver the Wanderer says:

And this name has four of them! You're in luck πŸ˜›

  18. Skilletdude says:

I still don't think giving her a name was necessary but it certainly doesn't bother me too much.

  19. lilims says:

aww its kind of close to my name πŸ˜€
mines is Liliana, the other one is prettier though lol

  20. wordarrow says:

Lol we have the name but can we pronounce it!

  21. kittengirl says:

I guess we won't be calling her Ramandu's daughter anymore.

  22. terebinthiangirl says:

Well, it's not that bad, but it sounds too much like an elfl-ish name, something you would hear in lord of the rings. It is very pretty, but it doesn't really seem to suit the daughter of a star in a narnian story.

  23. terebinthiangirl says:

No, i will still always call her ramandu's daughter!!! i have been ever since i read the books 6 years ago and i always will!!

  24. terebinthiangirl says:

yeah, that's what i was thiking, it shows where rilian came from, which is a good idea.

  25. terebinthiangirl says:

prunaprismia was a telmarine queen and ramandu's daughter (lilliandil)is a daughter of a star.

  26. Fire vein says:

    Beautiful!

  27. terebinthiangirl says:

im not a critic (lol) but i do think it sounds like a JRR Tolkien name, or at least like an Elvish name.

  28. terebinthiangirl says:

no way!! you can't have VDT story without ramandu himself!!! i don't believe for a second that there is not ramandu, but even if there is, i will never watch the movie again.

  29. terebinthiangirl says:

yeah it is lovely for her to not have a name in the book, it adds to her mysterious, like some other people have already said, and also it kind of makes her unhuman and untouchable. But it obviously wouldn't work in a movie, even though it worked great for the book. You're right, you kind of forget she doesn't have a name and needs one for the movies.

  30. terebinthiangirl says:

True!!! but EVERYBODY allowed the kiss between caspian and susan in the last film, so you can't solely blame HIM and not everyone else. I am disappointed with everybody for that, not just douglas gresham. After all, he wasn't C.S Lewis himself!!!

  31. wow. i knew this was probably going to happen but i'm still kinda in shock. it's a pretty name. and i guess it would have been weird for them just to call her "lady" or "ramandu's daughter" for the whole movie, especially if she's going to be in it for longer than the book. but still, as a book purist, this is kinda hard to swallow…

  32. Weapon Master says:

This reminds me of the way the White Witch's dwarf was given a name in the first film (Ginarrbrik, no doubt derived from Nikabrik). It would be cool if they kept her nameless, but somehow I don't think that would work cienmatically.

  33. elanor says:

I doubt critics would do too much research…how would they know it wasn't in the book? πŸ™‚

  34. elanor says:

Yes, someone must pronounce it with a British accent. Americans can try, but I don't really think their accents can quite compare!! The British accent is so rich and musical!

  35. Talvi says:

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that! XD

  36. Warrior 4 Jesus says:

Uh, you do realise that's not Douglas Gresham in the photo, don't you? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

  37. Warrior 4 Jesus says:

It would work, you just have to be very careful about the way you do it. Case in point: on LOST, the TV series, there's a main character with no name in the final season. You never do find out his name but it works.

  38. DOECOG says:

I didn’t notice that at first. You’re right they do sound similar.

  39. McGunn says:

Wow, that's true… I like that the name has some sort of meaning, and that would make sense.

  40. coracle says:

It's great that Doug Gresham gave her a name that reflects her son's name (well, his name will reflect hers).
    Lilliandil – Rilian!

I am guessing the "dil" ending is either a diminutive ending or a feminine name ending from some language I don't know!

  41. Lillyput90 says:

What about Lilly-AAN-dil with the "a" sounding like the "a" in the British pronounciation of "father". I could see it working.

  42. Sir Jack says:

I think even Ramadu isn't as myserious as his daughter.. for example you know for sure, what creature he is. He's a Star. but with his daughter it's different. you know, that shes Half-star.. but who's her mother? there are so many open questions about her.

  43. QStheG says:

    It's very beautiful name…also like a Star*crying*

  44. Starlily says:

Well, why is it only Middle Earth that can have names that end in 'dil'? Did Tolkien put a copyright on those sort of names? I certainly don't think Gresham was trying to mimic LoTR, and I think it would be silly for the critics to focus on that one name and claim it's Elvish just because it has a certain lilt to it.

Still, I wonder if C. S. Lewis would have approved of the name.

  45. Hope in the Lord says:

It might have to grow on me before I say anything. But it sounds pretty. Oh why can't they release the trailer I'm dying here. πŸ™

  46. narnian resident says:

yay! she has a name! i never liked how she was just called "the star's daughter". besides since she becomes caspian's wife its just rediculous to not give her a name.

  47. Stefania Duncan?
25.08.2009 NarniaWeb reported that the role of Ramandu's will perform Laura Brent:
    http://www.narniaweb.com/2009/08/ramandus-daughter-cast
    Why another actress?

  48. Mirima Rosetrader says:

I always thought she deserved a name besides Ramandu's Daughter. I really like Lilliandil. I'm so glad she has a name. πŸ™‚ Oh coracle that is neat that her name is similar to Rillian, thanks for pointing that out. :)Thank you Mr. Gresham for giving her a name! I'm dying to see the trailer now! Long live Aslan and sail on VDT!

  49. Aunt Letty says:

Prunaprismia is a great name for the character it belongs to though,eh? I loved in the movie when the crier had to belt out that name, announcing the birth of Miraz' son. He actually managed to make it sound less ridiculous.

  50. Aunt Letty says:

I know a lot of people disliked Caspian's fake accent in PC, but I think this name would come off better in that accent. It's a bit awkward to say out loud.

  51. Aunt Letty says:

They were also influenced by the same linguistic background material.

  52. Aunt Letty says:

That actress is quite pretty, and of course, she's the stand-in, not the character actress, but…I hope Laura Brent has a more, well, [ethereal] appearance. I really couldn't tell from that artist's rendering on the poster board we saw earlier. Ramandu's daughter needs to be beautiful, but not in the conventional, prom-queen manner. She should be someone who knows how to comport herself as a lady, something that is getting harder and harder to find in the entertainment business these days. It really can't be faked very well.

  53. marianne says:

Based on the few pictures I've seen of Laura, she seems very ethereal. In my opinion she has very classically beautiful face, like an ancient Greek sculpture's, and certain air of nobility about her.

  54. marianne says:

I don't think the names sounds particularly Tolkienish. First of all, the ll in the middle makes it look different. And secondly, it's a little too "cute" for an Elvish name. They're usually more Celtic or Latin. IMHO. πŸ˜‰

  55. just jill says:

lilliandil is a great name!it never really made sense to me why she didn't have a name. now if only we could see a trailer i thought one was supposed to come out in may. please get a trailer out

  56. Lucy says:

Dude, it's not another actress, it's still Laura brent. The other girl is her stunt double!

  57. Jeditrojan says:

This is a little off course, but since Ralian's mother was Lilliandil (cool name:-), that means that he is half star, right? Dose that mean he is the rightful king of Narnia? BTW like the name.

  58. ibart9 says:

im not into the name (sorry douggie)
what do they mean by stand in?

  59. Aslan's Meadow says:

So how "EXACTALLY" do you pronounce it?

  60. Haggith Tarkheena says:

I love it! But, my sister and I are SO used to pretending that her name was Esther, it's going to take quite awhile to get used to her new name. πŸ™‚
