My choices would be: Narnia, Middle Earth, and Hogwarts, Wonderland (book).

  2. Temlakos says:

They didn't ask my opinion. I'd have voted for Narnia, all the way. Even if it meant serving in the army–in fact, *especially* if it meant serving in the army. Long live King Peter! Long live King Caspian!

  3. Movie Aristotle says:

I like Narnia, but actually going there seems…unsafe.

  4. narniahp4ever says:

My choices: Narnia(always first:), Hogwarts and Naboo:D

  5. I probably could have guessed before reading this that "Pandora" would take first place only because it's the most recent "world" in people's minds.

Take the same poll in about 20 years and Middle-Earth, Narnia and Harry Potter's wizard world will be back on top. The worlds of classic literature (even the newer "Potter"), with their echoes of Biblical truth and redemption, will long outlast the "Avatar" fad and pagan overtones.

  6. boke_wyrm says:

I'd probably get killed, but Narnia would be first, then the Shire, then the Silverlock world (from the novel by John Myers Myers).

  7. Liberty Hoffman says:

awesome! though it's annoying to see that Harry Potter second over Narnia…..why not Middle Earth? argh. oh well…..

  8. Kate says:

I'd definitely choose Narnia first, then probably Hogwarts, Middle Earth seems like it would either be really boring or way too exciting. And Wonderland would definitely be too exciting.

  9. kirstP. says:

Middle Earth and Narnia are definitely my top two – in either order.
Yay that Narnia placed in the top three! And I agree that Middle-Earth will probably place higher again one day.

  10. NarniaCrazy says:

yes… it is most definitely unsafe. that's why i loved it so much! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  11. GlimGlum says:

    Narnia for me. πŸ™‚

  12. Melody says:

Narnia. Middle-earth. then…well, I'd like to visit the worlds I have made up. πŸ˜‰ The Star Wars universe is neat – though I would probably get into duels over philosophy & theology pretty easily… πŸ˜€

Safety is of no concern. We are between the paws of the true Aslan.

  13. Movie Aristotle says:

I agree that Pandora is only on top because of timing. Take the poll right after VDT comes to DVD and Narnia would probably be on top. I am encouraged that Narnia took third though, despite the relative failure of the movie PC. I am surprised that Wonderland was not higher on the list. Maybe in the poll they should have called it "Underland" instead!

  14. Aslan's Meadow says:

I would love to visit Narnia, any probobly the Star Wars universe.

  15. QueenLucy12 says:

1.Narnia(Duh) 2.Alagaesia. for #3 would be the world that I madeup.

  16. HighQueenofNarnia says:

Narnia!!! Obviously. Then, I'm not quite sure. Middle-Earth, maybe- I was shocked that it wasn't in the top three! Not anything having to do with Harry Potter, though- I don't approve of that series.

@Movie Aristotle: Ditto! Or after LWW.

I'd love to visit a world that my friend made up! Or one that I did… except mine doesn't have a name.

  17. HighQueenofNarnia says:

    What's Alagaesia?

  18. HighQueenofNarnia says:

I wonder why the poll questioned the uneven number of 1,739 people? Why not make it 1,740?
Polls are getting weirder and weirder these days. πŸ˜‰

  19. Narnia should have totally been first. Or at least Middle Earth.

  20. QueenLucy12 says:

    Have you read "eragon"?

  21. LL says:

    Long live King Edmund!!!!!

  22. LL says:

Narnia!!! Our home away from home…lol!

  23. Lillyput90 says:

Middle Earth all the way…..and then Narnia, the real Narnia, not the shadowlands.

  24. Braden Woodburn says:

    1-Narnia, 2-Hogwarts, and 3-Wonderland.

  25. NextJillPole says:

Long live Queen Susan! Long live Queen Lucy!

  26. Aslan's my homeboy says:

I would have to say Narnia then middle earth and then I'm not sure what else

  27. Neverland Child says:

I would say Pandora, Narnia, Middle Earth and Wonderland.
    But I never say HOGWARTS!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. Neverland Child says:

    I toldally agree!!!

  29. Neverland Child says:

Did you just say Scary Potter had Biblical truth? That insane!

  30. Neverland Child says:

Why would you say Middle Earth is boring?

  31. Neverland Child says:

I would all so like vist POTC the How to Train Your Dragon place and a land I made up.

  32. NarniaHannahβ™₯(used to be celtic13 and LucyReepicheep4β™₯) says:

Long live King Rillian! Long live King Cor!(even though he's king of Archenland)

  33. NarniaHannah says:

I would say Narnia, Odyssey(the town from adventures in odyssey),Alleble, the Star wars universe, Middle Earth, River Heights(where Nancy Drew lives), Bayport(where the Hardy Boys live), and some various lands I made up.
And who cares about getting killed? I know where I'm going. Heaven.

  34. kittengirl says:

I would go to Narnia and Naboo.

  35. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Yeah, Middle-Earth is sooo much better than Hogwarts! No offense! πŸ˜‰ You have over a gazillion places to choose from! If I took the poll: The Shire, Narnia, and Camelot.

  36. Omac the centaur says:

    Long live narnia.

  37. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Yeah. Middle-Earth will probably be in on the top once The Hobbit movie comes out! ;D

  38. Omac the centaur says:

agreed! that would be the main reason to go! πŸ˜€

  39. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Oh, yeah I forgot Alagaesia.(it's sort of like Middle-Earth,except smaller, and has good and bad dragons. Look it up on google or wikipedia.)So I choose Middle-Earth(plus Beleriand and Valinor),Narnia,Alagaesia. πŸ˜‰

  40. Puddleglum says:

I must say things would be rather slow around here without the occasional owl flying in with children set on an adventure.
But of course I have been told I am far too excitable at times.

  41. Omac the centaur says:

narnia, star wars, and, um, dinotopia? and a made up land of my own.. were the is always fighting. Oh! and earth! Earth would be soooo cool to go to. if only..

  42. Talvi says:

ha, yes yes! another Eragon reader! that would be on my list too! (Alagaesia… love the books, but I can never spell the world right. @_@)
but I seriously can't decide. Narnia all the way for first, of course, but then how to decide between Berk (I loved How to Train your Dragon!), Alagaesia, Harry Potter land, Pern, and of course my endless worlds that I made up??
    xD
but Narnia's first, and that's what truly matters, lulz.

  43. jag says:

yes unfortunately alot of ppl seem to think that harry potter is a story written in the same sence as narnia! this cld not be more further from the truth… harry potter is the complete oppesite of narnia, God, and christianity, it is sad to see ppl confused bu this but thats how satan works i suppose, we shld just pray for them, and let ppl know of the real truths behind things like harry potter!

  44. Queen of The Western Woods says:

The real Narnia all the way! Probably coz King Edmund's there πŸ™‚

  45. Sir Jack says:

Long live the King obove all High Kings, the son of the Emporer beyond the sea!

  46. Omac the centaur says:

Oh! ijust remembered, the wood between the worlds! that would be my first. then i could find narnia AND still go to other worlds. πŸ˜€

  47. Shasta of Archenland says:

I must say I respecfully disagree with Jag and Neverland Child….

Harry Potter, although written from a secular worldview in many senses and without any "God character" etc, has many echoes of truth and redemption. Rowling herself, who is a member of the church of Scotland, admitted that she had hidden a lot of spiritual truth in her work. Just because it is not as obvious as Aslan in the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe does not mean it isn't there. Sometimes spiritual truths buried deep are the best way to communicate with people.

One of the big objections to Harry Potter in Christian circle is the element of magic. Many don't think about the amount of magic that is in the Narnia and Lord of the Rings series. The issue is that Narnia and Lord of the Rings were written by two overtly Christian writers while Rowling did not make her Christian beliefs known because she did not want to make the ending to her series obvious and turn off a score of readers.

I challenge you to actually read Harry Potter yourself, and think about it, before you begin making assumptions about the books.

  48. Haggith Tarkheena says:

Ah, Man! Why didn't they make Narnia 1st place? It's a WHOLE lot better then stupid, idiotict, witch craft teaching Harry Potter!!!!! And my family and I rented Avatar on TV, and I do admit that the Avatar people are pretty cool, but the whole worshiping the "Willow tree" is DUMB!!!!! NARNIA SHOULD BE FIRST!!!!!!!

  49. Haggith Tarkheena says:

OH! And I can't forget Middle-Earth in the Lord of the Rings! That place is awesome too! I would stay in Rohan for 6 months, and ride their awesome horses, and then I would go to the Shire for a whole year!!!!! I LOVE HOBBITS!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  50. Haggith Tarkheena says:

I made up a land of my own too. It's actually a book I'm trying to write. (But I'm taking FOR EVER :P) It's called Lurtz, and it has unicorns, pegasus' sea creatures, gryphons, and faries in it. And the King is a GIANT eagle.

My book is Christain based. πŸ™‚

  51. Haggith Tarkheena says:

    Yeah. Exactly. Me too.

  52. Haggith Tarkheena says:

    YES!!!! OF COARSE!!!!

  53. Eustace says:

I excepted that the three top fantasy worlds to visit would be Middle Earth, Narnia, and Hogwarts. I am surprised that Middle Earth was so low in the list. I personally, would have picked Narnia, Middle Earth, and Starwars. But Avatar, Pandora world didn't look all that nice to visit. There are big blue creators about six feet tall and they act like part animals part humans, what are they you wonder.

  54. ernesto says:

because they remained in third place third place that hurt me because you are the best movie of Narnia, and ps are chida his movies but I miss you more adventurous or magic or something like a penalty but nimodo good bye.

  55. Cool! Mine would be Middle Earth, Wonderland (alice and wonderland land) and I think it may be Narnia or something that I forgot the name of.

  56. Feather~Light~Heart says:

Sweet! Way to go Narnia! I'm very surprised Middle Earth isn't in the top 3 though…

  57. MurtaghLuv says:

    Long Live Aslan!!!!!!

  58. MurtaghLuv says:

    My list would be;
    Alagaesia,
    Amara,
    Narnia,
    The Shire,
    Wonderland,
    and then all the others

  59. Whatever Christian beliefs Rowling had, I do not see them reflected as directly in her work — and some other beliefs she's outlined belie a wholly Christian worldview.

Nevertheless, I agree with Shasta above that though Satan may use "Harry Potter" to work in some people, 1) Satan can corrupt anything (even the Bible), and 2) If someone indeed sins, it is his own fault, and having read the whole series (almost twice) and seen all the films, I can assure those concerned that it is not "demonic" or a dispenser of real witchcraft or any of that.

The story is well-done fantasy and thus can be enjoyed as that, even the parts that don't reflect Christianity (i.e., valuing love for its own end, rather than as a means to the God Who is love).

What has also helped me is Jesus' reminder to the You-Know-Whats (the Pharisees) in Mark 7. Contrary to myth, He did not condemn them for following the Law but for swapping it out for made-ups laws. And in response to their made-up laws, Jesus said (from verses 14-23):

"Hear me, all of you, and understand: There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him. … Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?. … What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Application: I can read a series like "Harry Potter" and if they are not a real sin for me, making me stumble (cf. Romans 14), I can do this without being guilty of sin or giving the Devil a foothold. Reason: because real sin comes from within. It is not one's environment that makes me sin, but my own sin-shrapnel that still resides in me (Romans 7). How do I deal with the sin? Not just by avoiding Bad Stuff, but by looking to Christ my Lord and Savior. πŸ™‚

For more on this and other issues, visit http://www.yehaveheard.com/2010/05/stretching-scripture-yoga-opposition-and-sins-real-source . That column is specifically about Christians who think "yoga" is always bad, but applies to this issue as well.

And I'm always around to PM if anyone is curious to learn more. There is Biblical balance between trying to avoid tempting influences and not discerning at all — but from what I've seen and read, most Christians tend to fall into the trap of only emphasizing one or the other.
