Comingsoon.net Confirms Dawn Treader Will Be in 3D
As an update to our story earlier today, Comingsoon.net contacted their sources and confirmed that a decision has been made and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released in 3D.
Earlier today, a rumor started circulating the internet that 20th Century Fox will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D this December. ComingSoon.net has confirmed through our source that it is indeed the case.
It will be a 3D-filled holiday season, which kicks-off with DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind on Nov. 5. Disney will then release the Rapunzel film Tangled in 3D on Nov. 12, followed a week later by Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 on Nov. 19. The other 3D release scheduled for December is Disney’s Tron Legacy on the 17th, right in between “Narnia” and “Travels.”
As far as I’m concerned, there’s really no bad news here. 3D movies have been making an immense amount of money compared to what they would have made if they had only been released in 2D, even considering that this particular movie will now cost an approximately $12mil more to make now (assuming the run time is about 2 hours). The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was shot without being planned as a 3D movie, so it’s not going to be all about the special effects. And for those of you out there that really don’t like 3D movies, nobody is forcing you to go see it in 3D; there will still be a 2D version released as well.

No, you can see it in 2d as well
I totaly agree
Which fox why! !!!!!!!!!! The movie is ruined now the audience will pribabley be more focused on the visual effectsvthan the meaning of the movie. Oh my goodness I'm not a happy camper right now Haha and it ease not made to be a 3D movie
Me too.
Very true almbil and tarvis but still I mean it might put a bad name on the movie I guesd
I agree with the thing about a heart attack! Its happened to me before…. I'm definetly going to see 2D first!
I'm in the 3D-is-a-gimmick boat for Dawn Treader…no pun intended. I hope the movie sells a lot of tickets for the 3D release to compensate for the cost of transfer. I'll be seeing it in 2D preferably.
me neither. i dont no if im happy or sad. i guess ill find out. 😉
haha yeah probably so.
yay! this is good.
I'm actually pretty excited to hear this! When the first rumors came out about DT being shot for 3D , I was very wary of the thought…thinking the film would be more cheesy and have things "pop" out at you for no reason other than it could be done. However, now I feel okay about it being released in 3D. I have a good feeling about the direction of the film and I think the 3D, if done well, could help the film's success. And besides, now I have another excuse to see the Dawn Treader multiple times! 😉
And YAY for Tron Legacy in 3D!! lol
I am excited about this because I believe it will help the gross profit go up…therfore giving incentive to make more movies. I have nothing against 3D, in fact, I love it, but I do understand that the fear that now it is in 3D might bring people for the effects, not the story. But, then again, the more people, the more money, the more movies:D.
Actually, MP_in_Narnia, it was not filmed in 3D. "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was shot without being planned as a 3D movie" (see article, last paragraph)
Me too! 😉
I'm not sure how I feel about this…
Haha….yup! 😉 I think that I would have been disappointed if they had filmed it 3-D cause I would have been afraid that they altered some scenes in order to make it a better 3D movies. I am definitely gonna see it in 2D first…then maybe in 3D. 🙂
Noooooo!.. wait, why am i saying no. i like the idea. i think. 🙂
it isn't a big deal i don't think that its in 3d because if you go to see it, you can see it either way and when it comes on dvd u can buy it either way… not like they are totally shutting out the 2d version. i say YAY! because it will bring in more money and popularity… people will want to see it both ways (though i could care less about it in 3d)
yeswelovenarnia: I firmly believe that they did an excellent job on this movie. If you've seen the movie Amazing Grace, Michael Apted directed that.
Mine too! Only maybe not as far because of the previous headline, I knew it was a possibility and I figured that they were probably leaning toward 3D. Still, that was an EXCITING moment!!
For those who think this will fail because the 3D was done post-production instead of being filmed in 3D , go and watch Clash of The Titans in 3D. The movie was completed, then after the success of Avatar they decided to convert the film to 3D.
I remember in the prince caspian bonus features at the end of one of the videos there was a little clip of a dragon. What if that came at you in 3D??? That will be awesome!!!
They said in the report that it will be available in 2D as well, so that shouldn't stop anyone from going to see it just because it's in 3D.
What is so bad about that? It's in 3D and 2D. You can still see it in 2D! 🙂 Although I'm going to see it in 3D. 3D just makes it all the more better.
cool!! I really want to see it it 3D
Yesssss!! i think. 😉
haha this i want 2 see! 😀
Ok, enough of this 3D stuff. im ready 4 something new. 🙂
Please excuse me if someone else has submitted what I am about to share. It is my understanding (gleaned from numerous articles and from hearing actual interviews) that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland wasn't filmed with the explicit intention of being a 3D film, but was converted afterwards with new technology. I have seen it in 3D twice and love the film, but not necessarily due to the 3D. I will probably see Dawn Treader once in 3D and once in 2D. I just want to see it on the screen and for it to be very successful! (P.S. I have seen Avatar in 3D and found the 3D /effects to be amazing, but I am not a fan of the movie. Do NOT understand what the hype and success is all about. Boring, cold, too long for me…however, each to his own taste.)
I can't decide which to see first either!
I know!
I think that I will watch it in 2D first, so I get the overall feel of the movie without getting freaked out; but I will definitely watch it in 3D as well. THAT will be cool.
I wonder if they're releasing the DVD in 3D as well? Obviously 2D, but wouldn't that be cool? (You know, I don't even know if that is possible, but I can dream, can't I?)
I have never heard of a movie ONLY available in 3D… if anything, this is a GOOD move that gives us viewers an option.
Our only concern is how good of a job they do making it BECOME 3D
I'm buying tickets for this in 3D, just to say thank you to those who made this film better than the first 2 films
Yes, I know it was not filmed in 3D (I did read the article!…and pretty much ever other article on NarniaWeb) 😉 lol. I just meant that I'm glad they're CONVERTING it to 3D. And that, now that I've had time to process the thought of Dawn Treader being in 3D, I've gotten used to it, and am ok–even excited–about it. 🙂
That would be cool, HightQueenofNarnia! When Spy Kids 3 was released on DVD, there were 2D AND 3D versions of the film included in one case along with the "old" kind of 3D glasses (with red and blue lenses). The quality of the "home" 3D for Spy Kids was not that great… but 3D has come a long way since then… 🙂 It would be super cool to have a good quality 3D DVD of Dawn Treader!!! 😀
It'll be interesting to see the 3D conversion from the 2D original. If the 3D became available at the local plex, I will definitely go for it.
PEOPLE WHO ARE AGAINST 3D- don't pout, 2D is still the norm until 3D no longer required glasses.
Yes, me too! 😉 thank you, thank you, thank you! 😀
@ reep13: It isn't bad at all! They still have the 2D movie…that's how they originally filmed it. But, I think that making it available in 3D too, then maybe it will cause more cash flow which means more movies….yippee! 😀 😀 Idk….that's just my opinion. 😉
Ya, they did the same thing with that Christmas movie about the train….the Polar Express…it's pretty cool!
I'll see it in both, though if it's originally done in 2D I'll prefer it in 2D most likely, though I prefer Avatar in 3D.
I most likely won't see it in 3D.
polar express was in 3D?! cool. and yes, HighQueenofNarnia, that would be cool! i was actually JUST thinking about that!! 😀 258 days 10 hours, 24 min. and counting
haha that's cool.
Ok, why does every movie have to be 3d? I saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D but it wasn't that special. So why change it from 2D and everyone can be satisfied?
will it also be in regular 2D format? I really don't want to see it in 3D or buy it in 3D. I may have to pass on this and I will be VERY VERY disappointed if that happens. Are you SURE this is not just an early April Fools Day joke? Please?!
Ah, I see I didn't read far enough! I'm SO glad it will also be in 2D! Now I can relax and enjoy the rest of my evening!
I will be going to see it in 2D for sure, not sure if I will se it in 3D though. Most 3D movies I have seen/heard of are kind of cheesy. But I will not be prejudiced, just have to wait. Keep the story of Aslan alive!!!
I'm not so sure about this!
Yes!!!!!!!!!!! I so want 2 c it in 2d
Hey you've got a cool blog 😀 I really liked reading your hobbit stories. I LOVE Lord of the Rings!
haw do u get pictures on ur name? I REEEAAALLY want 2 no!
Well I for one am STOKED!! I love 3D movies and that will make this one so much better! I can hardly contain myself!
Wow. I am shockingly surprised at how many people have very little knowledge of how 3D works. Some are still disdainfully lived in the past with the red/cyan analog glasses. Today's 3D had advanced to where circular polarization of the glasses create a true 3D experience with the full rich color palette. For true 3D like James Cameron's AVATAR which were filmed with a pair of lenses/cameras to simulate the stereoscopic vision of our natural pair of eyes, it gave a truly depth of 3D fields. While films that were original shot with a single lens or camera, today's pixel shifting technology are capable of juxtaposing individual elements to match our left and right eye to create the 3D effect like Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND 3D. There are other techniques to create 3D but these two are of the highest quality professionally used. I am on YouTube and had created 3D videos with a pair of inexpensive Kodak HD camcorder. With the YouTube 3D tag, you can view the 3D in it's current available methods. I preferred the cross-eyed method where the left and right image are placed in vice versa so when you looked at the image/video, your eyes must be crossed to create a third image in the center which is 3D without using any extra tool such as a pair of 3D glasses- active or passive.
3D in theaters still required the glasses, but just think of it as a cool pair of shades that you like to impress the person next you, even when he/she has one. It would be interesting that in the near future, the movie theater actually have a lenticular like screen with two/single projector that layers the different images together and as we watch it, with the slightest movement of ourselves, the 3D effect is very noticeable without the use of glasses.
awesome!!!! i cant wait to see it!!! this movie can not come out soon enough!
Really? I saw UP and CHRISTMAS CAROL in 3-D, and it was only just decent. Oh well.
Congrats! I wish a narnia movie would come out near my birthday!
How true! 3D is my first choice, though, because I'll be gettiing the DVD in 2D.
Uhrm… okay, maybe I'll skip the 3D at the theatres…
I've been thinking about this, and as I have never seen a 3D movie before, it seems most pople are upset with this news because the 3D looks supposedly a bit cheesy.
However, I personally know a few people who have pretty much recently seen one, and they didn't think it looked dumb or whatever on the screen.
So maybe the 3D in this will be better- you neer know with technology, it soars upward in a surprisingly quick rate.
Anyway, why would it put a bad name on Narnia?? Excuse me, I don't get why.
