TimesOnline 50 Biggest Movies of 2010
TimesOnline has posted their prediction of the 50 biggest movies of 2010. They have The Voyage of the Dawn Treader at number 16. “One of a number of franchises jostling for the soon-to-be vacated Harry Potter spot, the Narnia series suffered something of a setback with Prince Caspianโs lacklustre performance. Dawn Treader is, though, considered by the Narnia faithful to be one of the best books of the set. The best known names in the film, Liam Neeson and Eddie Izzard, donโt actually appear onscreen, but lend their voices to two of the fanciful characters encountered by the young cast as they seek the Seven Lost Lords of Narnia. For good or for ill, this will be a turning point in this series. If it succeeds, The Silver Chair and other Narnia movies will win an enormous worldwide audience. If receipts are broadly similar to those of its predecessor, it could well be the last of the Narnia films.” You can read the full list here. Thanks to Lucy P. for the heads-up!
1st comment!!
SAIL ON VDT! ๐
I've heard that. "If receipts are broadly similar to those of its predecessor, it could well be the last of the Narnia films." That's why I hope they learned their lesson with PC!
I hope I hope I hope that this turns out well!
12 yay!!
God Willing, and I mean that with all my heart, VDT does very well, and we will be able to see all of the books be made! I Hope and Pray.
"If receipts are broadly similar to those of its predecessor, it could well be the last of the Narnia films."
No pressure or anything. ๐
GOGOGOGOOGOOOOOOOOOO NARNIA!!!! :D:D:D i cant wait to see this!…and the other three movies that are to follow!
Correction – FOUR movies ๐
I'd still like to know WHY they consider Prince Caspian's box office as being "lackluster", when it was one of the TOP TEN movies that year?? Just because it didn't match LWW doesn't automatically mean it was a failure. Especially when you think of the umpteen jillion films released every year. *Harrumph and Grr!*
All I can say to that is… Ditto!!!
Technically, PC only made $420 million compared to LWW's $740 million. If you ask me, that's pretty bad! The theater-goers and all that for PC did not nearly match what was expected.
I didn't look at all the names of the top 50 films, but they didn't exactly seem to be kid-friendly. All the more reason for the Chronicles of Narnia series to stick to the books.
I bet that VDT will do better it is just that PC came out around the time that two huge movies came out and as much as going to the movies cost now days unless you're a mega fan like me you aren't willing to spend your money if you already went to two other movies in the past couple of weeks
THE LAST OF THE NARNIA FILMS!! OH NO……WE WON'T LET THAT HAPPEN!! WE HAVE TO SUPPORT IT 100%, WE HAVE TO GO OUT AND TAKE EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WE KNOW TO THE MOVIES WHEN IT COMES OUT,SO IT'S A HUUUUGE HIT!!
Bravo! Well said, Trina!
If they quit at Dawn Treader, I will cry. ๐ ๐ ๐ Here's to hoping it performs sensationally at theaters. ๐
HORRAY FOR NARNIA! WORLD'S END OR BUST!
*grits teeth*
We have not gotten this far to fail now… >:)
eso que o que no tiene nada que ver con la pelicula de Narnia La trabesia del viajero de Alba o si
GO NARNIA!!!!! If they stick to the book, it will not fail!!!! PLEASE tell me they learned their lesson with PC!!!!!!!!!!!!
SAIL ON VDT!!!!!!!!
AMEN 2 THAT SISTAH!
Yes! Number 16! I hope it will reach higher than that!
If they stop the narnia movies, I'll cry my eyes out! Let's hope this is just a rumor. I'm gonna pray REAL hard for this one! The producers are CRAZY if they stop! But then again, they're probably tired. This is a lot of work, you know! But STILL, I'M GONNA PRAY HARD!
Right you are Lady Galadriel. On top of that the budget for PC was 225 Million and they barely even made back half of that. In Hollywood terms, that's a flop.
It's good to see Narnia high on the list but why doesn't Tintin get a mention? It's huge in Europe, actually pretty much anywhere but the U.S.
I'm sure I WILL NOT allow that to happen!
agh!the last bit!IT'S SO HORRIBLE TO READ!
people mostly went for Iron man and Kung fu panda during that time…so it made a big flop…
let's pray it won't happen again!
Don't freak out, peoples; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is going to do beautifully if it's made right, and I believe it will be!
Hooray for us making it this far, and continuing to the Silver Chair!
lol, I agree! We should totaly make signs that say that….
all I can say is, I hope VotDT will go beyond everybody's expectations and soar to the top of the charts and be the best Narnia film so far! Sail on, Dawn Treader!
Christproclaimer, you are correct! thank you for the positive insight! I agree!
or siggys and avatars…..:)
That would work too.
I heartily agree to that statement!
Hm, very interesting. I noticed Toy Story 3 was #5, and the new Harry Potter was up in the #2 slot (although when has it has it been anywhere but near the top?). Alice in Wonderland is a big movie too, along with Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief… it seems too like there's been a real fantasy fad going on in the world lately. I guess this is good thing for Narnia!!!
"Help us, Michael Apted. You're our only hope."
;D Anyone else feeling that sense of peculiar helplessness associated with not really being associated with the movie in any particular way? It's frustrating, really.
Ah well. If they fail us with VDT, there's always a chance we could remake them.
With a blond Caspian. *hehehe…*
I furthermore highly agree with that statement. This will be the best one yet.
I know that feeling. ๐
If you ever decide to remake Prince Caspian, call me. I would be very interested…ha ha.
Exactly. These things kinds of genre trends tend to cycle through. 2010 is definitly the year for fantasy. Plus Narnia has an additonal advantage: they went back to the tried and true Christmas time release scedule that proved to work for LWW, and Lord of the Rings.
Okay, that's gross. Why exactly did you feel the need to share that? ๐
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!
seeing them make this film is so nerve-wracking! this is the one that will determine the fate of the rest of the series!
Yay! Some publicity for Narnia!
Actually each Narnia movie will determine whether or not the next one gets made. Except for the last one of course. ๐
VDT just has to do well enough to make The Silver Chair. But I think that if the movie is as good as the book, it will definitely finish in the top 10 worldwide and in the USA. ๐
ditto
If it doesn't do well, there will be some very unhappy fans out there….. So get it right, movie-makers!!
*bites fingernails nervously* I hope that it does well enough to make th other ones….
hence the reason it most likely isn't on that list.
Liberty is right, I must admit that's she is right!
