Devin Brown’s Video Interviews with Micheal Flaherty

Last spring Micheal Flaherty, President of Walden Media, visited Asbury College as part of its Engaging Culture weekend (report here). As those who have met him know, he is a truly great man–full of wisdom, enthusiasm, real joy, and deep compassion. While he was on campus, Devin Brown had the opportunity to ask him about Walden’s mission, where its name came from, and even what his favorite scene is. His response to these and other questions can be viewed in “An Interview with Micheal Flaherty” which has been posted at the Asbury TV website.

    Awesomeness! Thanks for the interview…

  2. Bother Eustace says:

Yay for homeschoolers! Didn't know he homeschooled his kids.
I really like Walden Media, its refreshing amongst all the materialistic movie companies out there.

  5. Jilliette says:

    Awesome!!!

  6. Fire Fairy says:

For all of those people who are worried about how VDT turns out, they should watch "rapid fire questions about Voyage of the Dawn Treader". He says that it'll be closer "in spirit" to LWW and that Michael Apted has captured the character of Eustace in the same way that Andrew Adamson understood Lucy. It provides a little bit of relief to diehard fans of the book. I also enjoyed the other questions and their thoughts on the series and favorite scenes and stuff. A very good interview to watch.

  7. narniaismylife says:

  8. Mark Friedrich says:

    I hope you are right.

  9. Mark Friedrich says:

  16. narnia_lover127 says:

me too, am a senior this year! really great interview too!

  17. Pattertwigs Pal says:

He also mention that the part where Eustace is undragoned is one of his favorites. I'm feeling a little more hopeful. However, I'm worried about HHB since he said (I don't remember if he said it in one of the clips or if Devin Brown quoted what he had said another time) that it is is least favorite book and the least likely to be made into a movie.

  18. Empress of the Lone Islands says:

Where does he mention homeschooling? I myself am a proud homeschooler too 🙂

  19. Mark Friedrich says:

    Yes where

  20. Princess Arya says:

So am I! Homeschoolers unite! 😀

  21. Princess Arya says:

I haven't seen it, but I heard quite some time back that VDT is supposed to be aimed to get back to more of "that magical feeling" that was in LWW.

  22. Narnia Lover says:

ALSOME! 😀 SAIL ON VDT!!! 😀

  23. glumPuddle says:

If you watch the video "What is your favorite book?" Brown totally NAILS what VDT and HHB are all about: Longing. And that quote from Lewis is so applicable to both books. Devin Brown is one of my heroes.

  24. Mark Friedrich says:

    Can't see the video

  25. Fire Fairy says:

I agree. I loved hearing both their opinions about Narnia and the themes and everything. I feel a lot better about how VDT is going to turn out. Especially since he said his favorite scene is the undragoning of Eustace. I'm anxiously waiting to see how it all turns out!

  26. Fire Fairy says:

That's almost exactly how Michael Flaherty worded it. 😉

  27. narniaismylife says:

    im a home schooler too!!!

  28. yo quiero que lo pongan disney channel eh o nada mas disney eh por favor por que yo soy su fans de numero 1 sisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisi bye

  29. Fire Fairy says:

It's almost like he's speaking spanglish instead of spanish.
Is he doing it just to be funny?

  30. I think hes just doing it to mess with us.

  31. Princess Arya says:

I think he probably is. You know, for instance, if someone goes on a website in a different language, they might decide to be goofy and write weird stuff since they think no one will probably understand anyway. (He doesn't respond when someone asks him if he knows English.) What he says doesn't always make sense. I put it below. I did look on the Spanish translator on Google for it.

"I want you to put disney channel disney eh eh or anything else please because I am his number 1 fan bye sisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisisi."

  32. Fire Fairy says:

That's just weird. And funny. And kind of rude….oh well.

  33. ThaT'S A BIT ANNOYING…

  34. Mark Friedrich says:

For those of you who are home schooled what do you think of the Narnia series as a whole.

  35. Little DLF says:

    I've always wanted to be homeschooled….. 😉

  36. Princess Arya says:

I LUV IT! *grin* (Whether I'm getting into big debates or not on the small details!) What else?

  37. Mark Friedrich says:

Hope everything goes well for you.

  38. Mark Friedrich says:

Well if you are not homeschooled, welcome to the Narniaweb Homeschooled circle

  39. Odette says:

Yay! Asbury finally put up those videos! I knew there was a camera there for a reason…Thanks for finding those! I've been meaning to look, but life sort of exploded on me. Yes, Fire Fairy, the reason I said in my report, "you guys have nothing to worry about" is because of what Mr. Apted said in the "Rapid Fire Questions" [http://www.asbury.edu/asburytv/view/flaherty_q14](as well as some things we talked about in an unofficial interview). I will say it again, there is nothing to worry about if you are a fan of the book!
