Video: Drinian at the Helm

Drakeshe” recently posted a YouTube video of Drinian standing at the helm of the Dawn Treader. We haven’t seen much of Drinian yet. The video is short, but it’s something at least!

Thanks 7chronicles and Salem for the heads-up!

    That's pretty cool!

  2. Princess Arya says:

Yeah, I don't recall much of Drinian. Thanks for the video!

  3. BradenWoodburn says:

    Cool!

  4. JadistarkilleR says:

must be for the opening sequence when the Dawn Treader makes her onscreen debut.

makes me wonder when this was taken. Friday or Monday? doesnt sound that there was much activity on Monday, i guess Ben hasnt reported back on set yet (although presumably he should be back in Australia by now.)

  5. glumPuddle says:

So they shaved Drinian's head and then gave Caspian a beard.

  6. Aravis(narniafan#1) says:

Yes! It's Drinian! Thanks to whoever made the video. It's cool how it's kinda shadowy. Though i imagined him a bit different(he had a feather hat in the book) then this. I imagined him with a hat, or something. But he still looks like a captain. Well, I have to see more of him 2 b sure.

  7. Starlily says:

Lol. Makes sense, doesn't it? 🙂

  8. JadistarkilleR says:

ever since they made Jadis a blonde i have given up all hope of the Narnia team making an effort of getting the book description of the characters accurate. i understand that they prioritize talent over looks, but a part of me kinda wish that they would make the extra effort of being book accurate as well, the way the LOTR and HP franchise did.

  9. The Archenlander says:

I like the fact that Caspian has a beard, but im not sure im liking the shaved head for drinian. we'll see i guess.

  10. Lucille Brown says:

I guess I am the opposite of that. I am okay with Drinian having a bald head for now, but I really dislike Caspian's beard.

  11. Kris says:

Yeah I think Caspian looks great with a beard. Its not quite accurate, but I think it looks really good. Drinian with a shaved head however…I don't think I'm cool with that! I guess I just had this mental image of what Drinian should look like and that wasn't it! (I'm not a big fan of shaved heads on ANYONE lol)

  12. greenbird37 says:

Its good to see he has some coverage…should be very good!

  13. Tauriel says:

HP book accurate? You must be joking. 😀

  14. Tauriel says:

Oh come on, glumPuddle. Is it really such a big deal? Those are just little details that no one will worry about except those hardcore book fans who will rather nitpick over unimportant stuff than enjoy the films as they are. I could understand people not liking the castle raid in PC (it IS a rather big change), but Caspian's beard? Come on, get a perspective.

  15. Mirima Rosetrader says:

Cool video! He has a beard? I never noticed a beard. I want to see him up close and I wonder of they are going to keep his accent. I like his accent, but it's not very Telmarine. I like the shaved head, it seams more like a captain I don't know why.

  16. Mirima Rosetrader says:

Yo go, Tauriel! I totally agree with you! Thank you! People be a little flexible! And most of the changes I thought were good!

  17. Serenia says:

I'm with Lucille on this one. I don't think Ben looks good with a beard, and it's a bit much for the character.

  18. Eliseo says:

HP is not that accurate.. and overall Narnia is much more close to its books that many book-to-movie adaptations.

  19. Narniamiss says:

Um, GP isn't making it a big deal, he was commenting on it, that is all. And I have to agree with him in the fact that it does seem like they just can't get it right.

  20. CelticPotterNarnianFan says:

cool Narnia is coming back to life!! 😀

  21. Last King of Narnia says:

If I remember correctly Jadis' hair color is never actually mentioned in the book. As a matter of fact Lewis describes very little on any of his character looks as he wanted the people reading it to let their imagination decide. So I don't understand what you mean by characters looks being "Book Accurate".

  22. King Skandar the Just says:

very interesting…thanks 7cronicals and Salem for spying for us!

  23. Roguewolf says:

If you've read LOTR, you'll know that they changed a lot of the characters and things. And the truth is that C.S.Lewis was very ambiguous about his story. He leaves a lot of unanswered questions too.

  24. Lutra's Pearl says:

I don't know if I like the beard but it doesmake him look more kingly. Keep the story of Aslan alive!

  25. TumnusTheBrave says:

how can u even make out that its drinian

  26. InLoveWithAslan says:

    Interesting…

  27. CEP Paul T says:

Yet Gary Sweet wears the look very, very well. Not every guy can pull that off and make it look good.

  28. Tauriel says:

Making book-to-film adaptations is NOT an exact science like mathematics. There is no precisely defined "right" and "wrong".

  29. tolkienlewisfan says:

Drinian??? That better not be! Or at least change his look by movie time!

  30. Narniamiss says:

I completely agree! We never said anything "had" to be a certain way. But some fans love to see Lewis's wording and detail come to life. And plus, sometimes it's fun to "nitpick!" 😉

  31. Narniamiss says:

it is movie-time, they are already filming…

  32. Narniamiss says:

LOL, I know! I still can't make out that it is him.

  33. Narniamiss says:

Ditto on what you said, Jadistar.

  34. HappyGiant says:

Seriously, you guys are getting way to concerned over this. Just don't boycott the movie over that! (OK, I know no one would, I just have a natural instinct to plea when a deep and concerning thought plagues me. Yes, boycotting narnia is one of them. :p 😉 ) OR (and I'm not joking) I really, somehow, deep inside me, think Drinian looks cool and awesome in a shaved head. Which I doubt. He probably shaved his head to get rid of all the madwomen after him. 😉

  35. todos los videos de ustedes son chido de los fans sisisisisis bye

  36. scrubb says:

never imagined a sailor to be bald….

  37. HappyGiant says:

Tauriel is right! No offence, but you are all sorta getting on my nerves. WHO CARES IF DRINIAN IS BALD AND CASPIAN HAS A BEARD??? C.S. Lewis never said so! And C.S. Lewis didn't illustarate the books himself. I'll never know for sure, but I think he'd be ok with it. And as the bookfan I am, I'm fine with it if cs lewis is.
Dinian bald isn't really that bad you know? But I'll admit, Cas with beard gives me the creeps! Hopefully, I'll get used too it!

  38. esta muy bien los videos bye

  39. Muttly says:

It would be difficult for a sailor to be bald – all the sun and no shade. But if you have the right skin type and don't mind the sun in your eyes all the time, then you can do it.
Personally, I think Drinian looks awesomely cool and imposing with a shaved head. I wouldn't change it. (Then again, I probably never would have thought of it! Lol!!)

  40. Narnianheart (narniafan#1) says:

    thats cool!!!!!!

  41. JadistarkilleR says:

folks relax, i was referring to physical accuracy of the LOTR/HP characters in the films in comparison with its source material. LOTR and HP cast members are pretty accurate with exception of a few odd details, but for the most part they are book versions come to life. but characterization and adaptation of the story is a completely different discussion. the Narnia franchise unfortunately is the most inaccurate when bringing a character's physical description from book to screen. but as i mentioned in my previous post, they at least hire the best actors that brings the characters to life, so in a way the trade-off of book-accurate looks is worthwhile.

  42. JadistarkilleR says:

@ LastKingofNarnia, what Lewis lacked in description he made up for it by collaborating with Pauline Baynes. all her illustrations passed through him for approval, so if Jadis was rendered there as as brunette, then Lewis agreed with it. besides visually it would've been more startling to see this fiercely pale, towering woman with jet black hair, it all adds to the dramatic visuals. the problem filmwise is that Tilda Swinton doesnt look good with dark hair, so the makeup dept decided a hair color on her that flattered her features best– platinum blond.

Lewis can be pretty sparse/ general with his characters' descriptions, and half the time he'd add a fact about them as an afterthought in the next story (Caspian being revealed as blond is a classic example). a part of me was just hoping that the filmmakers take what little descriptive clues of characters to heart and whatever is not provided in the book, will then start exercising their artistic license, not the other way around.

  43. JadistarkilleR says:

i guess you never heard of Popeye 😉

  44. true-narnian_queen says:

Yeah Narnia has stuck more with the book then most movies have!! and give them a little breathing room, they cant get the book on sceen word for word! GO NARNIA!!!

  45. narnian resident says:

perhaps they didnt give him hair because(well i personally think) that he would have looked strange with hair. i wish the video was better. you cant see anything except for a silouet of him. well, at least we saw something of drinian finally!

  46. narnian resident says:

relax. who says they have to have everything "perfect"! all you should ever worry about is if the actors they chose are good actors and know how to play the character, not just look it. really i never mind looks as long as the actor is good and plays the character. i couldnt give a care whether he were bald, or had the most crazy hair! (ok, i would mind that though)

  47. Jackie Lewis says:

Mmm…Still don't like that he's bald. But I'm willing to look past that. I just hope he acts like a Drinian.

  48. pselpevensie says:

    cool video. short, but sweet.

  49. awesome! Love this vid!

  50. Princess Arya says:

I didn't care to see Drinian would be bald, but then I really wasn't sure what he would look like. But I usually try not to compare these movies with the older adaptations, because otherwise I wouldn't like it! So when I think of it that way, it will just be something for me to get used to. And it will make him distinctive! 😛
I wasn't so sure I liked Caspian with black hair and beard until I realized I was also comparing him once more with the older movies, in which he is blonde and has no beard. (At least if I remember correctly, because it's been a while since I saw them.) When I take them out of account, it doesn't seem so bad to me.

  51. Eden says:

I totally agree. I mean, does it really matter if Caspian has a beard or Drinian a shaved head? I don't really think the hair styles are what we need to worry about (If we need to worry about anything!).

If they make Ed or Lucy bald, then I'll REALLY start worrying!! LOL

  52. Narniamiss says:

I do love the shaved head, it makes me think he is more daring, for some reason.

  53. Narniamiss says:

Same here, but I DID like the old Drinian in the BBC movie. I liked his "draw." The way he talked kind of stucked with me.

  54. Narniamiss says:

    Whoops! I meant "drawl".

  55. Princess Arya says:

Yeah, one of the things I liked was Aslan's voice better. It sounded to me to be more "heavy and golden" (book description) than Liam Neeson's (I'm sorry if I didn't get his name right!). But Aslan himself was a giant puppet I think, not the awesome CGI version.
I liked Caspian in the old version better until I started thinking, "There could be two different styles." The one in this version seems older and more kingly, although too old, considering his age in the book, but then…
Ah me, I can go on about this type of thing! 😀

  56. Lauren says:

haha my video of Drinian is good my dad zoomed up on his face lol 🙂
he was the only person i saw, gary sweet(: that was all i could see.
