‘Veggie Pirates’ DVD Commentary Mentions ‘Dawn Treader’

In the audio commentary for “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie,” Writer Phil Vischer mentions Narnia as being one of the inspirations for the script. At the 45:06 mark in the movie, Vischer says: “Pirates of the Caribbean was one of the first attempts to make a pirate film supernatural. Which [Veggie Pirates] also has, but I was looking at things more like Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis where you have just a great adventure that unfolds episode by episode with different supernatural and very interesting interactions with different kinds of creatures.” During the scene with the cheese curl monsters, Director Mike Nawrocki jokes, “You know what would’ve worked better? Those little invisible creatures from Voyage of the Dawn Treader, because they’d be a lot less expensive to animate.” Phil and Mike have mentioned Narnia before in VeggieTales interviews.
