Narnia Reigns Overseas
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Narnia is still showing strong legs overseas. Currently, its domestic US box office stands at around $267 million.
With the absence of broad new rollouts, Buena Vista International’s “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe” went unchallenged for the fifth straight weekend as the No. 1 grosser internationally, yielding an estimated $13.3 million at 7,067 screens and throwing off a cumulative boxoffice of $342.6 million to date.
For its part, “Narnia’s” $342.6 million cume makes it the 30th biggest-grossing international title ever, the 27th biggest globally. “Narnia’s” global tally to date, $614 million, surpasses the $611.9 million global boxoffice figure for Mel Gibson’s worldwide smash, “The Passion of the Christ.” (“Narnia” will begin its Japan run on March 4.)
