Disney Buys Into the Wardrobe
Okay, okay, it was an April Fool’s Day joke… we hope you all enjoyed it! We ran the following press release today from Into The Wardrobe and it was an April Fool’s Day joke. Cheers!
Dr. Zeus, administrator at Into the Wardrobe, our sister site devoted to all things Narnian has made public the news that the Walt Disney Company has purchased the website for inclusion in their marketing for The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. His press release reads:
Dear friends:
It is with great excitement that I make the following announcement. Last week, negotiations for the purchase of Into the Wardrobe were completed. You may have previously read about these meetings on several of the Narnia rumor sites, but I have purposely tried to keep it a secret until now.
I can finally make public some of the details! Into the Wardrobe has been catering to the C. S. Lewis online community since 1994, and has developed quite a following, being the premiere web site on the topic. Three months ago, I was approached by The Walt Disney Company, with their desire to purchase my web site for inclusion in their marketing of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe movie that is coming in December, 2005. I cannot disclose the amount of the purchase, but I can tell you that, as part of the negotiations, I will be employed by The Walt Disney Company to continue the administration and maintenance of the site.
I will keep everybody notified of the details as they are made public. For now, please know that the site will remain free, and your personal information will be kept safe. The one thing that will change, however, is the inclusion of advertising on the site. This is an unavoidable step, as The Walt Disney Company must integrate their online business model with Into the Wardrobe. However, believe me when I say that the trade-off will be well worth it. There are, indeed, some surprises yet to be unveiled!
