The article below appeared in the Ilkley Gazette this week:

Sweet Georgie is winning the hearts of the fans after her casting in top film

Fans of the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe have given Ilkley’s Georgie Henley the thumbs up.

As reported last week, Georgie, nine, has won the coveted lead children’s role of Lucy in Disney’s first multi-million pound Chronicles of Narnia movie.

And fans of CS Lewis’s series of fantasy books from across the world have almost unanimously taken the ‘sweet’ Moorfield School pupil to their hearts since news broke of the casting last week.

On fans’ website narniaweb.com, discussion forums have been raving about Georgie, who is also a member of Ilkley-based Upstagers theatre group.

Milmi from Finland said that Georgie was worth the long wait to discover who had been cast. “Finally! Georgie (Lucy) is so sweet! Just as I imagined Lucy to be.”

Aldarida from America added; “I think that Lucy was cast perfectly, she is so cute! I am sure that they will all look a bit different in costume and on screen.”

Rebecca W from Australia added; “Lucy looks very sweet – the kind of girl whose cheeks you’d expect your aunt to pinch.”

Both Lossenchristal from America and Aeral Alqawen added their approval to Georgie, who is currently filming in New Zealand with Shrek 2 director Andrew Adamson.

As revealed in the Gazette last week, Georgie won the coveted role after an audition organised by Gill Jackson at Upstagers. The film will be released on Christmas Day 2005 and, if successful, could be the first of seven, providing Georgie with a lucrative movie career.
