    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.narniaweb.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=1770" rel="nofollow">FencerforJesus</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> Games of the XXIX Olympiad - Beijing<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> August&nbsp;19&nbsp;2008 at 3:10pm<br /><br />&nbsp; We have all been disappointed in the judging on the Women's Gymnastics.&nbsp; It is not just the vault, but the balance beam and other things too.&nbsp; The only event that was truly judged accurately was the floor exercises last night.&nbsp; The top three finishers were truly the top three performers (US got silver).&nbsp; As to which one was better of those three, I cannot say.<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>&nbsp; US Fencing is climing the ranks.&nbsp; I believe Fencing is over for the Olypmics now and the US finished 2nd overall only to Italy in medal count.&nbsp; We got six medals compareed to Italy's seven this year, a US best.&nbsp; We got Gold, Silver, Bronze in Women's Individual Sabre, Bronze in Women's Team Sabre, Silver in Women's Team Foil, and Silver in Men's Team Sabre.&nbsp; And on top of it all, next to no recognition for it except by fencers.&nbsp; </DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>&nbsp; And re: Michael Phelps.&nbsp; I have full respect for the man for what he this past week, getting 8 Gold Medals.&nbsp; Unheard of?&nbsp; Yes?&nbsp; Astounding?&nbsp; Yes.&nbsp; Greatest Olympic Athlete ever?&nbsp; For his sport, yes.&nbsp; Overall, no.&nbsp; Swimming is the only event I know of that gave him the chance to get 8 Golds.&nbsp; You can get five in fencing, assuming you are so good in all three weapons to qualify and do team.&nbsp; You can get three in gymnastics (team, your event, and all-around).&nbsp; Track, you can get 5 (maybe more.&nbsp; I just know Marion Jones went for it).&nbsp; So just because Phelps had the chance to do 8, it doesn't mean he really is the greatest ever.&nbsp; But nonetheless, absolute sensational performance from him.</DIV>]]>
